unprotected sex & brown discharge while on the depo shot?
Hi. I'm 21 years old. & I recently went on birth control (the depo shot) 3 1/2 weeks ago. I took it on a Thursday, I was suppose to get my period that weekend but I didn't. I still haven't gotten my period but i know that with the shot its normal & i might not get it at all while on it. The thing is that two days ago I noticed I had dark brown mucous discharge & a tad bit of blood (like smeared) on my panties, this also happened yesterday. I put a pad on ( thinking I was going to get my period), went to sleep, & woke up today with nothing. But i recently checked & the dark brown mucous discharge is back. Also I read that brown discharge can happen with birth control. I have had unprotected sex about 5 times since the shot & have only used a condom once. I don't have any birth control side effects except bad headaches here & then, & now the brown discharge. but my mother started getting migraines when she was 19 so it might just be in my genes. i don't know. I would like some info on what I'm experiencing because I'm new to this. Oh also I recently began being sexually active in Feb. Any info would be greatly appreciated! thanks -
More than likely side affects from the shot. Take a pregnancy test to put your mind at ease. Brown discharge may just be old blood, it's pretty common. As long as you and your partner are monogamous and STD/STI free, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Migraines/headaches, yeah, another unfortunate side affect of BC.
Of course, if you are overly concerned, call and talk to a nurse at your Dr's office.
