Double dose of birth control pill for breakthrough bleeding. HELP! (newbie)

Hi! I've been on Nordet-21 with great results, taking at the same time in the afternoon EVERY DAY, no breakthrough bleeding, everything has been great! For the past 2-3 days I came down with a stomach infection wich was basically really bad diharrea (this is embarassing *lol), I'm just getting over this (didn't take any antibiotics) and today I discovered that I had started spotting a brown discharge. I called my Gyno and she told me that this could be a reaction of my body's metabolism going up while I had diharrea, and therefore the pill not having enough time to be fully absorbed by my body. She suggested doubling-up on my birth control just for today so that I'd have enough of the hormones in my system to stop the bleeding. I just wanted to check with everybody if this has happened to any of you? I mean the whole correlation between stomach sickness and breakthrough bleeding...and the doube-up of dosage. Does this make sense to any of you?
The thing is that I'm feeling REALLY nauseous with the double dose (my Dr recommended to not take them both at the same time, since side-effects like this where more likely to happen, so I took one this morning and I should take my other one in the afternoon, like I use to do daily)...I still see the breakthrough bleeding and I was thinking of maybe skipping the afternoon pill (therefore not *really* doubling the dose), but I don't know...Should I just bare through this today? I'm confused! Has anyhthing similar happened to anyone here?
Thanks SO much for your answers (and peace of mind)!!

Personally I would take the advice of a specialized doctor over the internet any day but it is still entirely up to you.

It does make sense, but I never personally did that. I was on Nordette for years. The only time I doubled up was if I missed a pill. But what she is telling you makes complete sense.

Like Secret said above, you'd probably be better to take the Dr's advice.

Done it and doubled pills quite frequently for other reasons. If you have bad diarhea your digestive tract is not working properly and is not going to absorb pills so doubling up is a good idea. Now I have a nuvaring so that is not factor.

I would go with the doctor's opinion on this one. Stomach issues can certainly disrupt absorption.

Toward the end of my time taking the pill, I was nauseous every morning. Hormones suck. It should clear up for you though, once you stop doubling up.
