    IUD + diafragm?

Hi everyone. This is my first post.

I'm thinking of getting a copper IUD (similar to Paragard). I was on Yasminelle for a month a half and I hated it... I felt tired, libido went down, once I cried for no reason. So for now my boyfriend and I are using condoms.

I don't want to put any artificial hormones in my body anymore, so the Mirena is ruled out too. My concern is, if I'm able to get the copper IUD, can I combine with condoms or a diaphragm for increased protection? When I told my friends that I wanted an IUD, a lot of them had stories of relatives or friends that got pregnant using copper IUDs, so it's kind of scary. Some of these happened around 20 years ago, so I don't really know if older IUDs were less effective, or if these women had expelled their IUDs, or if they were just unlucky.

I'm specially interested in the diaphragm, since my boyfriend doesn't like condoms, he says he can't feel much with them.

Has anyone tried this combination? Do you think the IUD strings would puncture the diaphragm, or that removing the diaphragm would pull on the string somehow?

    Thanks!

I used a diapham for years without a problem. Had an IUD for years without problems, can't iimagine any reason to use both together. But no the IUD strings shouldn't cause a problem with the diaphram.

Thanks Wildchild. The reason I was wondering if I could use both is, like I wrote, that I'm not sure if I trust the IUD to be completely effective.
