    Why Birth Control Pills?

    Hi Ladies,

I've been on the forum for a few months now and really just have a question for all the ladies. Other than for the obvious reason (not getting pregnant) why did you choose to go on birth control pills?

It seems so many young women are prescribed the pill to regulate their cycle and it is doing the exact opposite. Also why are so many young women willing to try multiple BCP's if their body is not adjusting?
Sorry that was more than one question..

I chose it because I am not going to go through the hassle of a diaphragm, not a fan of using spermicide, I do not trust pulling out, I am not scared of taking a pill, it is cheap (about $3.50 a month) and I take a bunch of pills already so I am already accustomed to taking a pill at the exact same time every day.

It seems so many young women are prescribed the pill to regulate their cycle and it is doing the exact opposite.
It does regulate for well over the majority of patients prescribed to. Not everyone is that fortunate though and they do end up with side effects, and those that do look for answers online and end up on forums like this which makes it seem like the problem is exceedingly high.

Also why are so many young women willing to try multiple BCP's if their body is not adjusting?
Because there is more than one type of pill. There are several types of hormonal brands each releasing a different type of synthetic hormone at varying doses for a varied period of time. Each synthetic will act differently in each individual body so it can take awhile to find the one that has reactions that the body becomes adjusted to.
There are those who believe that dictionaries should not merely reflect the times but also protect English from the mindless assaults of the trendy.

I chose the pill for the reason you said, birth control. I could not stay on it though. The mood swings and depression caused from any pill i tried, made my life a living . I can't use any hormonal birth control, so I am looking into a Copper IUD.

I chose the pill for birth control and have had many questions about it. I am 26 and have never used the pill before, only condoms. So each new change my body goes through its like I'm here typing out a new question. Hoping for an answer. Because even though my doctor told me what to expect, I didnt get anything different except for a period that said hello I'm here! normal red when not on bcp and then the net three days were like the last two days of my cycle. That was weird to me because it was totally different than what I was used to. but it was lighter, not shorter. Four days still which is my norm. So I asked a question if that was normal and no one answered me. Guess its normal. lol

I got on it because, like you said, I didn't want to get pregnant. But I also wanted my bf to have "access" to me whenever he wanted....ya know...so I could be that "dream girl" that never turns him down. And that's what I was. Finally, after 10 years of being on it, and being "constantly accessible" to my boyfriends whenever they wanted it, I became resentful because though they were getting what they wanted, I was suffering a multitude of symptoms (one of which was a lack of libido....how ironic). I did what you described, and switched pills time after time after time. Why was I willing? I guess I felt trapped....like if I'm not on the pill then he's going to have to take precautions and then he's not going to be happy with that. Fatigue, lack of energy, mood swings, lack of motivation, feeling of being weighed down emotionally and physically, hair loss, lack of libido, periodic acne breakouts, the list goes on and on. Been off of it now since March 2010 and can't imagine myself ever going back on.

i was on the pill and suffered a mild stroke at age 18
i dont smoke and had non of the risk factors they associated with strokes and the pill
i had been on it for 3 years
once i went off it i began to feel normal again... just better overall
i have since had an iud for 6 years and its been great...

                Hi Ladies,

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Jessie1234- I'm glad you were able to find an alternative. How was your stroke diagnosed? Did a doctor confirm that this was due to use of birth control pills?
