    Considering Paragard (copper T IUD)

Has anyone tried the copper T IUD, called Paragard? I have tried several birth control pills as well as the Mirena IUD, and all hormonal birth control methods make me moody, depressed, I gain weight, get frequent yeast infections, etc. I want to find a hormone-free BC method and my doc suggested the Paragard. I'm worried about the increased bleeding and cramps. Any feedback would be appreciated.

If I knew then what I know now

I have one and will be getting mine out tomorrow... I have had mine for 3 years (7years left). I have had a chronic BV that turns into a yeast infection for the last 2 years. I hate it. Waste of money. BEWARE

        Think very hard !

I have always been prone to yeast since my children and had a few bacterial infections too. Doc talked me into a Copper IUD after MUCH discussion and a "Surprise" baby. I asked several times if it would cause my system more problems and she said "absolutely not." Since Nov, I have been battling a losing war. The yeast and bacteria take turns making me miserable. No doctor will take the time to really help figure it out. I am reading several books to get educated about it. To be honest, I will probably have the "little devil" taken out in July - there is not point in it since we can't have sex.

        Good Luck.

do worry about not having babies cause there'll be no sex

I had mine taken out two weeks ago. After having a BV for two years that won't go away I had the little devil taken out. I had it sent in to have tests done to see what the was wrong with me/it. Well they found some rare bacteria not one usually found on IUDs. They gave me Levaquin (which is a cure for Anthrax) I am finaly feeling a little better. No wonder the hundreds of dollars I have spent on RXs hasn't cured me. See they kept treating me for BV with the normal meds like Metronidazole, Metro Gel, Flagyl, Clindamycin, etc. But I needed to have it taken out to get the right tests done. I am so happy I fianlly listened to my body. I had seven years left with it and I tried to keep it as long as I could to get my moneys worth but oh well. My hubby is gonna get a vacectomy, which works for me cause I am too irresponsible to stay on top of my birth control, which is why I got it. I hope you don't have the same problems as me cause I have friend with one and they had no problem with it. Also I was reading another post and ordered Botanical Advantage for chronic vaginal infections cause I still feel like I will never kick this infection. Good luck!

            for paragard!

I am 20 years old and a college student. Im currently on my second period after getting my Copper IUD inserted. I basically got it done because i was sick of having to take a bc pill each day. The day after I got it inserted, I did some real research and psyched myself out and thought I made a huge mistake after reading many horror stories.

HOWEVER, i abesolutely love it!! My first period came a month after inserted with yes, an expected heavier flow, however still lasted the same number of days. Cramping was pretty minimal. No spotting or cramping after my period. Although, I got my period a week early for my 2nd one I am experiencing no cramping. I get a thick discharge (no odor) at certain parts of my cycle but consider it normal. Ive had sex since, and i totally forgot about my IUD until after the sex!! my sex drive if anything has increased because the hormones in my old bc pills dried me up, now its all slip and slide!

            I abesolutely reccomend this method!!!

              bleeding

Has anyone had any issue with bleeding when having sex? The last 2 times this has happened to me now. Sure it was at the end of my period and all but I don't think this is the cause. Just wondering if the device may be causing the problem or if anyone has experienced this. I havent made the time to call the doctor to ask yet. It is rather irritating and upsets the mood, as well as conserning at the same time. The blood appears to be new and not from my period. It scares my boy and I need to try and find an answer.

This is an old thread. But I'll chime in that I had a plain old IUD for 9 years and never had a problem. When I had it remove (have to replace every 9 to 10 years) it was super simple. I had clotting trouble with the pill, chemical sensitivities with the diaphram after a few years but loved the IUD - no muss, no fuss, no chemicals.

                  HI there
Me too actually going in tomorrow at 11 30 to have local anaesthetic to insert the Copper IUD am terrified as I went on Friday and they couldn;t get the thing through my cervix. I have had 2 C Sections so it was difficult. Hence have to go tomorrow. Also I have a full on period so not looking forward to that. THough they said it was better to get it throught the cervix if I was bleeding. Ugh. So wont know if its the coil that is making me bleed or period. Not looking forward to the cramps that people talk about on here and the heavy flow as generally periods ok. But looking forward to the no stress of condoms and the interruption they cause to passion. What do you think Should I go for it. Help
