I just thought I'd put in my opion...

I've just had my ParaGard replaced just 2 hours ago. I'm 44 years old and got my first ParaGard 10 years ago. I don't know if it was my doctor at the time, or the fact that the process of insertion hadn't progressed like it has now, but my first was very, very painful. Maybe it was the fact that I had a male doctor, I've never had kids, the planets weren't aligned, I don't know. It was a horrible experience where I cramped all night and bleed for 2 weeks.

Now not to freak all of you out that haven't had one put in yet... Fast forword to today...

I've found a new doctor since then after doing a lot of homework on how she's rated in everything from experience, to patient approval. I've read a post a while back that it has to do a lot with how experienced the doctor is. I say that is very much true. Yes, it was still painful, but not NEARLY as bad as that first time and I have NO cramping to speak of

I'm a true believer in the ParaGard, and I love the fact that for birth control, it's one of the cheapest, you never have to worry about it, and the big thing for me, it lasts 10 years. I love it

My advice to anyone considering it, do your homework first and talk to your doctor. If you're not comfortable with how they're answering your questions, go to another one! I was lucky and found a doctor that does many, many IUD's and I think it's important.

I'm happy I finally found a board where people can report good experiences for a change.

I didn't become pregnant but the battle with the bacteria and the yeast is a side effect that I have been dealing with for 2 years. For some reason the doctors and the nurses continuously try to talk me in to keeping it. I am tired of pumping medication through my liver. It is coming out at the end of the month after 5 years. My husband and I will use Trojan non-lubricated seeing as how there are toxins in the lubrication of most condoms.

        Good Luck.

Yeah... That BV is a beast... I didnt have a problem until 3 or 4 years after I had mine inserted I will not allow the doctor to talk me into keeping it on my next visit. It's a wrap for Paragard!

Paragard was nice for about 3 years until I started getting chronic BV infections that would manifest into yeast infections when treated. If you begin to develop infections, don't give it a second thought. Have it removed. Do not allow anyone to talk you into keeping it! Do not allow yourself to be treated for BV over and over again. It is very expensive, annoying and could possibly have long term side effects. It is not worth it. Think about your liver. Because you need it.

What were the problems that disappeared almost immediately? I am having mine removed due to chronic BV.

                Hello,
My name is Shaun-Tay. My birthday is august 29, 1983 and I am 26 (almost 27) years old. My maternal grandmother if full blood alaska native (chugach), my maternal grandfather is german and sweedish, my paternal grandmother is african(unknown)-American and Irish-indian(unknown), my paternal grandfather is african(unknown)-American and native north American-indian(unknown). I grew up and lived in L.A. california and was covered under my mother's health insurance through UCLA untill I was 23 got married and moved to monett missouri.
From birth to 12 years old my mother kept me up to date on all vaccination, dental and vision check-ups. From age 12 through high school I had an 3 additional sports health check-ups yearly. From age 15 to current I have continued to get my anual pap smear test. In all that time I have had one occasion where I had the flu, twice with a UTI, and four times have had yeast infections. But from the time my husband and I moved to missouri and I started working for a chicken factory (the past 3 years) I have had the flu three times each winter, colds through out the rest of the years, ringworm, UTI's and yeast infections at every check up despite anti-biotics, migranes, insomnia, bouts of throwing up, hospitalizations due to intestinal viral and bacteria infections, tendonitis, and skin rashes. We were in a vehicular accident on november 1, 2009 the company that we work for put me on medical leave instead of light duty and cancelled our health insurance since it was pulled out of my pay check, my husband enrolled us under his paycheck and the insurance company is saying that because it is a new policy that all our medical is classified as pre-existing.
I did get x-rays in november, and an MRI in december but they only did it with out contrasting, diagnosing me with a crushed disc in my lumbar and a pinched disc in my thoratic. that was the extent of my doctor visits till this last month of may. I went in due to my dentist saying I needed to see an MD ASAP from my breadth smelling like rotting food and throwing up. I went to see the doctor on friday may 7th and they took blood, did an electro something heart test, and swabs of my nose and throt. I got a call from the doctor (not her nurse) and she said she needed to do more tests to confirm: Hepatomegaly, Renal Disease, Hyperthyrotoxicosis, Graves, Pancreatitis, and Intestinal Putrefaction.

The doctor said I had to go off and stay off of any type of hormonal birth control but to be sure that I do not get pregnant because it can be FATAL in my current health condition. we would try abstance but sex has been the only thing that has been helping with the insomnia, cramps, headaches, and back pain. I have an appointment with the doctor on thursday June 17th; I would like to ask the doctor about getting the copper T IUD (paraguard)

has anybody heard about someone in my condition and the IUD?

I am 37 and have had my paragard IUD for nearly the full 10 years. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone who is sexually active and does not have multiple partners in need of birth control for a long period of time. My decision to get the IUD came after my son was born. I had been on and off the pill for 12 years. I was sick of trying to remember it, and with a newborn on top of it...Crazy! Of course there are side affects but there are with any BC. It differs for everyone. The biggest side affect I had was longer and stronger periods. For the most part I had my period anywhere from 7-10 day, with the first 3 being more heavy. However I know people who did not have their periods at all...so don't let that discourage you. It was the best choice for me, and I also did a lot of research with my doctor before making this decision.. It is costly so be sure this is what you want. I would say that I came out way ahead with cost considering I've had mine the full ten years. I am actually having mine removed next week, and wondering what to do next, something I will have to discuss with my doctor considering my age.

Hello there I am so glad to have found this forum it has been so beneficial to me...I am very highly considering getting a Paraguard IUD because I know that I won't ever put synthetic hormones in my body. I am 20 years old, engaged, and still a virgin...we plan to get married in approximately a year or so. I would like some advice on how far in advance I should have it implanted so that my body can really adjust and take to it before our honeymoon...I have yet to go to my first Gynecology appointment which is scheduled for a few weeks from now...I will, of course ask them their advice, but I am just looking for some other ladies' advice on their experience/knowledge. Thanks so much for all the great info
