Lindsey, I think the amount of copper there is so small that there's hardly any risk for something like that. But it's always a good idea to go over all of your questions with your doctor.

You should have no discomfort during sex, but it's advisable to wait a few days for the IUD to settle in before going at it.

Hello everyone.... Sorry to read about Angels bad experience but that's what this forum is for.. the good and the bad... I do have to say thank god I didn't read that first because I'm a chicken lol. I have had Paraguard for over a month now (pretty sure lol) I have had 2 periods since I got it. The second one ws quite a bit longer and heavier than normal (over 10 days) I have had a few cramps that were zingers but as I stated before.. They don't last long enough to even take any meds really. I do have a comment for Lindsey... Good luck.. Hope you have as good of an experience as I have and the question about sex.... My boyfriend is..... A circus freak in the endowed department lmao.... I was REALLY worried about that myself and I was a little sensitive at first but After a while not only was it unnoticeable but better than ever because of the lack of stress so I was able to relax a lot more . I have noticed the longer periods and more cramps but in NO way have I even considered it not worth the benefits It's very hard to even remember to update my posts here because I forget I even have the thing until I get a cramp or when I'm NOT stressing about getting pregnant lol. I will try to remember more so that I can post more positive things because it seems like so many women are missing a chance because of horror stories. All I can say to someone is that Every woman is different and I thought that if ANYONE would have a bad reaction I would. I am very fortunate and unbelievably happy to be one of the success stories for Paraguard

        Paraguard Copper IUD Troubles

I am a 24 year old female who has only had 2 yeast infections ever, both of which were situational and not a surprise. About a year ago I had Paraguard inserted with minimal-medium pain, as I have never had a child. Since then I have had the expected heavier and longer periods then previous, but I also have had chronic dryness and yeast infections which I gave up treating due to the fact that they never seem to fully be relieved. The dryness has caused small vaginal fissures which sting during urination. I also experience much more intense PMS then previously, and find it harder to be aroused then at any other time in my life. My Doctor prescribed high dose ibprofen for the cramps and the typical cures for yeast infections, all along saying that these were not symptoms of the IUD. However I am convinced that they are all caused by the IUD and plan to get this thing removed as soon as possible, however I find it very upsetting that there are no other non-hormonal options out there, being that I also suffer from clinical depression. Which is affected greatly by both the hormones in the other forms of BC as well as the increased PMS from the IUD. I believe that WE ALL NEED TO GO TO OUR DOCTORS AND TELL THEM THESE ARE SYMPTOMS AND STUDIES NEED TO BE DONE SO THAT FUTURE PATIENTS ARE AWARE OF THEM, and maybe 1 or 2 will actually listen. As far as having it removed goes, I will let you know if I am symptom free at that time.

harr, I know how you feel about doctors not taking various symptoms of IUDs seriously. While I love my IUD and plan on keeping it for years to come, I'm having two periods per month now, which I'm sure is caused by this considering it started as soon as I got the thing inserted! I went to doctor #1 who told me there was no way the IUD was causing this, and he pretty much scared the living you-know-what out of me, saying I probably had a very serious underlying problem. Whoa.

I went to doctor #2 who listened to my concerns and immediately prescribed short-term medication to regulate my periods.

Wow. Lesson? GO TO MORE THAN ONE DOCTOR, if you can!

            Mes_T,
I agree, second opinions are a must. 2 times a month seems to be my standard too, although its about 1.5 a month now, 12 months later. SO that's promising, but the rest still bothers me. And I was regular as clockwork before I got it inserted, so the Dr's are wrong I just wish that one would listen to us. Or get it inserted them self and possibly experience some of these "non-existent symptoms". Because I would have thought a lot longer about getting it inserted had I known, specially since I have sensitive skin.

LINDSEYR... I, despite having other symptoms, have not really had any pain during sex. My boyfriend who is WELL endowed has felt it poke him hard once or twice, so I had the strings clipped shorter, that was no big deal. He says every now and then he can feel it but it does not hurt him, and every now and then I am aware of it and draw away a little. However, it just feels like he is larger then he is, not really a pain any different then in normal/passionate sex.

I HAVE A QUESTION FOR THOSE WITH BAD Experience's WITH IUD s--
Simply put, I have a suspicion that problems may occur more frequently in people who have sensitive skin or common and unusual skin conditions [i.e. keratosis pilaris (small red bumps, frequently found on the upper arms of children and adults, no itching/other symptoms)]. I have these suspicions for a number of reasons all of which are enhanced by my schooling - BS in Bio and Masters of Nursing in process. So question is, IF YOU HAD A BAD REACTION DO YOU FALL INTO THE SENSITIVE/IRREGULAR SKIN CATEGORY?

I totally think this would receive more attention in its own thread. It's a great question.

So I just had the paragaurd placed in this morning. Honestly it hurt more than I ever expected it to...We also had a slight problem that my doctor was almost not capable of inserting it. I'm 20, 21 in may, have never been pregnant, and have actually already had 3 leep procedures (I know...I'm young to have that many done) the scar tissue from those procedures caused more pain and the cervics wouldn't aparently open enough to insert it. Eventually though we got it in. The anesthesia at this point wasn't as strong so the pain was worse. After it was done and over with I was REALLY dizzy.

When we got into the car on the way home that's when the pain kicked in. To make matters worse my dad who had taken me had to go to a meeting and we didn't have time to get my prescription of vicodin filled. I had the worse cramps I've ever experienced...it was absolutely HORRID!!! The pain was so bad that I was actually throwing up. I was like this for about 3 hours sadly because no one was home or could get me the pain medication. After calling my doctor bawling she said to take a hot bath. This helped alot more than I expected it to. Thankfully by the time I had gotten out my mom had come home with the vicodin.

Should I be worried about the pain from now on? Because if so I'm not too sure how long I'll be able to hold up :[

Erobins, normally the pain should go away within a day or so. In your case maybe a little bit longer because of your previous procedures and whatnot... In any case, pain like that is, in all likelihood, only temporary!
