Newbie with copper coil questions (had it fitted today)

Hi all. Ive been mooching around this forum for a while reading a few bits of info which helped me alot.

I had the copper iud inserted today, remained in the doctors for about 3 hours as couldnt stand up without being faint. Eventually i was fine (feel fine now too) Im sat at home on the sofa and have little bleeding, nno cramping (the odd twinge here and there) which is making me worried....that iv expelled the thing? I am very squeamish to say the least and after being poked and prodded this morning am feeling queasy at the thought of now rooting around inside myself to check. is it likely that iv expelled it (what with the stop of cramps etc) or am i just lucky and have had a real easy experience with it?

thank you - i know someones gonna tell me to stop being a baby and get in there to find out.....but its still very fresh and im cuddled on the sofa not wanting to even move! lol.

It is not likely you have expelled it just because your pain has diminished. You had a minor surgery that means it is going to hurt until your body says "okay I'm fine". If it fell out, or noticed that it was not sticking properly, the doctor would have noticed when they were poking and prodding. Trying to find it yourself can cause more pain and problems because you could accidently move it around or panic for not seeing it. Keep some midol or advil close by or a heating pad for your stomach to ease the pain. The pain ends at some point, some people do not notice it and some are cringing for months...everyone is different.

I left mine alone for a week before I got up the nerve to check the strings. They were right where they were supposed to be and haven't moved since. Like you, my cramps were very light after a few hours and disappeared entirely up till my first couple periods with the IUD in. I've had mine for 8 months now and not had a problem with it shifting.

Like Secret says, keep some midol around and don't worry too much. If you expelled it, you'd probably know.
