Depo after effects?
Okay so i got my first depo in september then started reading on it heavily and did not like the idea of it taking up to 2 years to get pregnant. So i stopped i only got one shot in december right before i was supposed to get my next shot sex made me bleed for a week spotting like now its january and i had thought i started my period but i only messed up my stuff and changed went to the bathroom and passed a blood clot the next time i went to the bathroom there was nothing. I was wondering if anyone else had a similar situation and if that is just my body trying to get back to normal. Ty

I was on the Depo shot years ago. I did not have those particular side effects, but everyone reacts to the hormones differently. It did make me gain a lot of weight though. When I came off of it, it took about 4 months for my periods to return. If these side effects are concerning you, talk with your PCP. Any hormone-based birth control can mess you up, that's just a choice you have to make. -
I was on depo for a year about 15 years ago. The worst thing ever for me, IMO. I can't remember all the details of my side effects, but I do remember they were horrible. I'm not sure if it contributed to being difficult for me to get pregnant or not, but I did have a hard time becoming pregnant. It took a few years, plus some assistance from the Dr.
Like Kristalyn said, talk with you Dr., probably your best option.Comment

My cousin was on depo for 10 years. Never had one period in 10 years and now has been off of it for almost a year and has so far been unable to get pregnant. Actually, she hasn't ovulated or had a period yet either. Very frustrating. Though I do not advocate that women take birth control pills either. I recommend "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. Actually there's a thread I just started this morning in the Pregnancy Forum about this book. I HIGHLY recommend.
And yes, what you're experiencing is most likely your body saying "Ohh I'm confused".... because of the on/off of the depo. But if it keeps happening and you're concerned, talk to your doc to ease your mind or find out if there's another issue. Most likely though, you'll be fine after some time.Comment
