    I'm scared..

I don't know where to post this, therefore I am trying here. I've never had a pap before, but I've been on birth control since I was 13. I was taking it to help me with my period, not for being sexually active. Well, I don't have insurance anymore and I finally ran out of my pills therefore I am going to Plan Parenthood tomorrow.. I am scared of having a pap, each time they tried to give me one before it hurt really bad. I am relaxed when I go in, but it still hurts. Is there anything I can do so it wont hurt anymore?

I'm sure you wont see this before going but you can ask them to use the smallest speculum. Most dr's just use the larger one but they do come in varying sizes. Hope this helps.

thats true there is a smaller one...we're not all built the same size down there and if it hurts you should let your doctor know - maybe they can be more gentle or help you with relaxation exercises

Have them use the smallest tools available as well as being gentle. I hate to say it but a small amount of pain is worth your physical health. That pap checks for std's, cervical cancer, abnormal entities etc. So just suck it up. Pap smears are your friend. It's much scarier getting cervical cancer and not catching it early...
