In search of yet another Birth Control

Alright well, I'm back on the hunt again. I've been on birth control since about December of 2008 and i've already had to change once. When I first got on it, I was on a pill called Necon and I was on that up until about October of last year. Necon was causing me great issues with my weight, I was getting stomach pain and dealing with Migraines more than was normal with me so back in October I switched a lower dosage pill. This pill was called Alesse. It worked well for me up until about January when after I started working I was dealing with dizziness and nausea while at work and as the months passed it got worse. Come to find out it was in fact this pill because it has something in it that the Necon did not have so i've been off the pill going on 4 days now.

I can tell you I am going through withdrawls from not being on it and I can tell a difference in my body as it reacts. Now, my doctor told me to go to a OB/GYN simply because she's been unable to get a good test whenever I go in to get a pap done. She can never get any cells and now she believes there may be something going on with my cervix being tilted or weird or whatever so I have an appointment on Tuesday to see an OB/GYN. Now, i'm also planning on getting another type of birth control but I don't want my dosage to be up high again since I've done well with the Alesse minus the dizzy spells. My sister, who is 36, recommended maybe trying the Nuvaring. She thought it was one of the best birth control methods she had ever used (back before she got pregnant with my niece and is now using an IUD). Has anyone used Nuvaring? I know you insert it yourself which I'm not to positive on. Is there any other birth controls out there that may be better for me than a pill?

I'm simply looking for opinions on different forms. I did go out and buy some condoms here not to long ago just to have a back up method for the time being while i'm off of it since my fiance and I both have high sex drives so it gets a little hard when I have to tell him no even though we're both in the mood. So any responses are appreciated as well as opinions on other birth control pills/methods. Thanks guys!

I've had the nuvaring before and it worked well. You do insert it yourself but you get used to it, like inserting a tampon. And you don't feel it or anything.

It really was wonderful, unfortunately later I realized that NO hormonal birth control was ever going to work for me due to various side effects.

Have you considered Mirena or Paraguard IUD? It works for some, not for others... But if you do happen to be one of the ones it works for, it's absolutely brilliant.

    FemCap?

And finally you can just chart your BBT to determine your fertile days. There's also a fertility "watch" you can purchase, as a "reinforcer" of what your own charts are telling you. And then just abstain from sex during the week that you're fertile, or use a back-up like condoms.

If you do go back to pills I can say that one brand that DID work for me was Ortho Tri-Cyclin Lo (I think I spelled that right?). It was such a low dose, and I had no side effects whatsoever. I don't rightly recall why I ever went off it.

Well good to know someone else had a positive experience with Nuvaring. The whole inserting part I’m not fully comfortable with though since I don’t even use tampons, found I can’t insert them correctly or something but they’ve always hurt me whenever I tried so that’s why I’m iffy on the nuvaring.

I’ve thought about the IUD and stuff like that but I’m not sure if that’s a good route for me right now and I’d just rather stick to a pill or something like that. I’m definitely not interested in the patch or the shot so those are a no go lol

I’ve got my appointment tomorrow to see the OB/GYN so I’ll talk to her then and get more options. I do need a lower dosage for my pill just because I dealt with weight issues pretty bad when on my first pill and I don’t want to go back to that.
