    IUD for heavy periods

    Hi!
Don't know if this is right place to post this, but since I am thinking about IUD(mirena) I think I might get some help with opinion of people using it.
I do have heavy periods more for last 6 months lasting for 7-8 days. I did go to a doctor long before when i needed contraception and she gave me cerazette tablets as i could not tolerate other pills because of my migraine problem. But I could not take that for long time as I had problems with severe migraine (even with cerazette) and intermenstrual spotting.
I don't have kids and am going through a divorce. I was thinking if I could ask my doctor about mirena as it controls heavy periods. But also, I have read that mirena also can cause depression.
Am coping with divorce process and am depressed at times for which I haven't tried/needed any medication.
I just want to know how bad can depression be with mirena and if not having any pregnancies before is going to affect the decision of mirena insertion.

Mirena doesn't have a unique set of side effects. If a woman gets depression while on seasonique, it's quite likely she'll get depression on mirena, on ortho tri-cyclin, etc.

You won't know how the mirena affects you until you try it, unfortunately. However if hormonal pills give you a migraine problem, then it's likely that mirena will do so as well.

As for the length of your periods, do you have an active/healthy lifestyle, or is there room for improvement there? There seems to be SOME correlation between weight/health and menstruation.

I had my tubes tied 16 years ago. Four years ago I got a mirean for my heavy periods. I also have low grade migrains. I have not noticed any more migrains, really even less, But better then that after 6 months I had no more periods. And I will get another one!
