    Nuvaring issues

Hi everyone. I'm new here. My name's Kris, I'm 25 and have no kids....yet. Hope to have at least one someday. Anyway, here's my situation. I've been on Nuvaring for probably AT LEAST 7 months if not a little longer and haven't had any issues on it at all until the end of last month, beginning of this month. I ended up getting a really bad uti, started out on one antibiotic and took that for 2 days, then went to an urgent care place (as requested by my gyno) and they put me on stronger antibiotics. I finished that whole bottle which was 9 1/2 days. After finishing, I realized I was still having some pain in my bladder area. Not as bad as the were, but still there. I thought it was just the uti coming back or something. My week off Nuvaring came, so I took it out, and my period started. 2 days before my period stopped, I put Nuvaring back in (it had been a full week). I noticed I started having those pains again, and when me and my husband had sex after my period, it hurt, too. I'm thinking..what the heck is wrong with me?! Anywayz, decided I better do some research on Nuvaring and see if anyone else was having these types of issues. I see that alot of people had, so I decided to stop Nuvaring and I took it out 2 days after putting it in. This makes the 4th day I've been Nuvaring free, and during those days, I did feel a difference. The pain was gone and everything and I could breath a sigh of relieve. But then I wake up this morning...and I'm bleeding....again. At first it was just some spotting and milk cramping, but now it's bleeding, and it seems almost to be heavier than my period. I called the gyno this evening after getting home from work and asking her about it and she said it was breakthrough bleeding from having Nuvaring in for 2 days then taking it out. But what concerns me is that it does seem to be heavier than my normal period. Has anyone else had issues like this with Nuvaring or anything?

I'm not sure about those pains. I don't really see how a nuvaring could potentially contribute to a recurrence of uti... but what you describe sounds a little bit more like coincidence. Have you phoned your doctor on that??

As for the bleeding, that is almost definitely caused by you taking out your nuvaring when you're not "supposed" to. We're dealing with hormones here, and putting them in and taking them out like that can really confuse our bodies. It's true for any hormonal contraceptive - pill, ring, whatever. I think you need to make a decision, whether you're keeping this thing or not, and stick with it.

I would focus more on the uti than the bleeding - the latter is quite normal given the situation.

Well, the uti is gone. I was just saying that after coming off the antibiotics it felt like a twinge of pain like the uti was coming back, but that all went away once Nuvaring was out. That's why I don't think it's a coincidence. I'm not prone to getting uti's. This is the second one I've had in my life...and the worst one. But just to be precautious, I try my best to drink one glass of water before each meal and take a cranberry capsule to help prevent future uti's. I've never actually had bleeding like this or any other symptom coming off of the shot or pills...so at first, it just threw me.

Well at any rate, the bleeding is now slowing down. Seems that it will probably stop today, so that makes me feel better. Still not sure what to do as far as bc goes now. My husband absolutely HATES condoms....so..yeah.
