Question to ask about the pill??

Hi my girl friend is just starting to take the pill so we can have unprotected sex. What i want to know is when can we start having sex unprotected? Can we have sex unprotected within one hour of taking the first tablet? obviously with tablets such as paracetamols and antibiotics and so on, they work within 30 - 1hr. Is this the same?!

    I think......

Its safe about 7 days after your GF starts the pill to start having unprotected sex.
I am not sure if diff pills have different amounts of time but I think its usually about 7 days before the hormone is in the body properly.
If your GF was interested there is a thing called the Mirena Coil- Dr needs to 'put it in' though, but it works immediatley, literally if you wanted to have sex that evening you are protected immediatley (apparently!)
It also the most effective contraception available(besides tubes being tied) ....Might be worth a think for the future...(not sure if you need have had a baby before getting this)Check with your chemist maybe to see what they recommend....

No. Use a condom for about the first week, maybe two weeks if you want to be sure. You can start having unprotected sex relatively safely after about 2 weeks. Safely is a loose term because there are no safe methods of birth control (pill, condom, IUD etc), all will have a failure rate. The pill is about 98-99.xx% safe if taken EXACTLY AS DIRECTED. If she does not take it within a 3 hour window of whatever time she will usually take it everyday, or skips pills, or misses any the effectiveness of the pill will be altered. If she is not good at taking pills at specific times then set alarms on the phone or alarm clocks or keep it in an area that will be easy to remember to take. She must be diligent in taking those pills if she wants to have an effective dose always in her body. After about a month her body will be used to seeing the pill there, she will likely have breakthrough bleeding anytime within the first few months (this is just the body getting used to seeing a new substance). If she does bleed early it does not automatically mean she is pregnant, it is listed in the common side effects and happens to nearly all women. Other side effects may also occur and she may need to try a few different brands to be comfortable. Some women experience zero side effects and are fine with their first brand. There is absolutely no way to tell whether or not she will have any side effects or which brand will work best.

obviously with tablets such as paracetamols and antibiotics and so on, they work within 30 - 1hr. Is this the same?!
Other drugs are other drugs. All drugs have different modes and sites of action. A birth control pill does not work like a pain killer or antibiotic. A birth control pill takes awhile for the body to get used to seeing.

Well, when it comes to things like the coil, other IUDs, and implants, they can be removed. Personally, I preferred the Nuva Ring to the pill, because I'm horrible at remembering to take it.

            pill

The coil lasts about 5 years alright but you can get it removed as far as I know when you want-ie.if you want to have a baby-In Ireland and UK you can anyway...... i assumed its the same everywhere!!!
I tried nuva ring before - not for me.......
Best of luck with it anyways.
