I got the depo shot for the first time in April 2011. I loved it for the first year. Not many problems, no period except some spotting when it was about time to get the shot again, I gained a little weight, but once I was told that the only reason you gain weight is because the hormones trick you into thinking you're pregnant and that you need to eat more I just learned to recognize when it was actual hunger or depo cravings hunger and lost it all plus a little more. However, in march, about a month after my 4th shot, I started having side effects. I got sick for about 3 weeks and my sex drive completely disappeared. it's been gone ever since. My brain wants to have sex, but my vagina does not cooperate and get wet like ever. My boyfriend thinks that it's because I don't like him anymore, which is NOT true. No matter how much I try to explain it to him, he blames himself for not being sexy enough anymore. Also, I'm a hormonal *****. I can mostly control it on the outside except for when I'm with my boyfriend. However, on the inside I end up thinking so many really mean thoughts. I'll see random people on the street and automatically start judging them and thinking about how something about them is ugly. i can't control it! Immediately after I do I'm like omg! no! They are beautiful and they have a family that loves them and I am sure that they are a wonderful person. Then, I feel HORRIBLE about it for the rest of the day and whenever I think about it. I've literally started crying before because I judged someone for like 2 seconds and felt bad afterwards. I have really bad mood swings. I was one of the happiest, nicest people before. Now, I feel like I'm so mean and sad. I hate it. Different birth controls affect different people differently. Many pills have the same side effects that I got from the shot. If you don't want to have to take a pill every day, get an iud that can be taken out if you experience bad side effects instead of having to wait for it to wear off. However, if you go with a pill, missing one pill can get you pregnant, but it is a very tiny chance. As long as you use condoms for a week after missing a pill, 99.9% of the time, you'll be fine. To remember to take it, just set an alarm on your phone or something. This is just my experience though. I'm sure I'll probably miss a pill or two when I switch to it after this round of the shot wears off in January. It's just something that you have to get used to, I guess. Otherwise, there would be a lot more unplanned pregnancies.

Only reason mom wants me to go on it is because me an Fiance' messed up 2ce with me ending up taking morning after pills today was the second time, we do use condoms but they snap or slip off even the really expensive ones!

Aw, congratulations girl! I'm really glad, I got married very young a few years ago and everyone was saying to me that it would never work, we got engaged, they still tried to deface me and then we were married-ha! We still are 7 happy years later!

About the condoms (even when you're on the pill/injection you should still use them) - make sure you read the leaflet inside the condom box with your fiance, it explains how to put it on properly so they don't come off, it can be tricky! Congratulations, I wish you all the best
