This is for sure the most painfull experience i have yet to incounter in regards to birth control! During the instertion of the copper IUD not only did i suffer two intense cramps when it was being instered but i threw up shortly after its been 8 hrs since i have had this inserted and am still in bed with pain. I can't keep motrin down i just throw it up. I called the doctor and she said if it didnt get better to come in in the morning... I don'tlike hormones but can't function with this pain! I'm thinking most people have had a child before they get a IUD and since i haven't maybe that is way my side effects are so intense. Is this normal did anyone go threw this similiar experience and did it get better?

Major IUD Complications

I have had serious complications with the use of the copper IUD. I actually didn't think that the insertion was very painful, but the aftermath certainly was. I, like you, was vomiting because the cramping was so severe. I had to take a week off because I couldn't stand up straight. I liked the idea of not thinking about birth control, however, so I left it in hoping that if I persevered, it would become less painful. It didn't. Nine months later, I'm still vomiting due to pain, and cramps start a full 10 days before my period, which is now much longer and heavier. My gynecologist actually performed laparoscopic surgery to make sure I don't have endometriosis. I checked out alright, but I'm still in major pain. It turns out that the bottom of the "T" part of the IUD can irritate the inner part of the cervix, causing extreme pain. I read a study where they tried to relate uterine size to pain in IUD use, but there were no conclusive results. It turns out, some people just have bum luck. Good luck!

It was a lonnnnnnnnnnnnng time ago.

But, me too.

Mr Doctor immediately realised my body didn't cope with it and removed it straight away.

My "opinion" ? Get it out and get it out now.

Try something different...

It will get worse, I recall rolling on the floor until my Mother found me 12hrs later and I had left home. I couldn't even open the door to her for 10 minutes....

I think every woman is different, but if you are still in pain, its not for you.

My experiences were okay, Ive had 3 iud s in 20 years, but the one i have now is mirenia ( i think thats what its called) and it releases small amounts of hormones, and I dont have any periods.
Its not comfortable having the procedure done (I had severe cramps, and almost fainted on the doctor when i stood up) but it should calm down after a few hours.

Dont put up with it anymore!!
