    Is Cerazette making me ill?

    Hey Ladies,
Not sure how many people have tried Cerazette but I've been on it over a year now and I'm 99% certain it's making me poorly. I took Ovysmen (combined pill) for 5 years and it was the best choice for me. I've since been taken off of it because I gained weight due to stress, and started Cerazette instead.

Since starting it, I've gained 2st 9lbs in weight. Try as I might to ship the weight I just can't. I don't eat junk food, have a fairly active lifestyle, swim 3 times a week so it shouldn't be like it is. I tried my wedding dress on a few days ago and my Mum commented that I'd gained weight, I nearly cried because try as I might not to it's like my body is doing it just to annoy me.

Other symptoms I've had include feeling nauseous, some acne, irregular periods, some cramp and oh my god...my mood!! I could swear my fiancé is on the brink of walking away :-( I can be watching TV and I'll start crying, I could be listening to music and I'll be in tears. He could hug me and I'll be inconsolable. Just every little thing brings me to tears. That, or I'm SOO angry! Not just a bit moody, like one little thing makes me feel like I want to kill my other half. Sometimes he'll just be in the kitchen and my mind will just start locating all the knives. I hate it because in my mind I'm sure I'm going crazy! I've started swearing more, more "down in the dumps" and very lathargic! To have the energy to do the laundry I need an hour long nap. It's not ideal, it's not healthy and I definitely don't feel well. I feel really anxious in myself as well. Like I'm actually going to go crazy, like I'm actually about to die, like I'm actually about to anything. I'm flapping around trying to find logic and reason, then sitting down and bursting into tears. I'm not me at all :-(

Perhaps the hardest part is the fact my other half has refused to let me stop taking Cerazette. He's pointed out that I can't take Ovysmen anymore, I don't want anything invasive (implant, IUD etc) and condoms are "uncomfortable, unreliable and expensive". A friend of mine had a false pregnancy on the implant and my Mum's IUD imbedded itself, so that's put me off of both of those. I've also read similar symptoms for the injection so I'm not keep to try that, either. It's bad enough I hate needles so if it's going to make me feel just as poorly I don't really want to brave it! I feel like telling my fiancé if he's not prepared to use condoms we abstain from sex as I feel so ill on Cerazette but I know that will just lead to an argument and an hour of not talking, then him trying to reason with me to stay on the ******** things :-(

We're getting married in 2 months so I really want to make sure I feel better for that. I've already had multiple occasions of storming out of the room because I felt irate and I can't keep doing that. Last time we went to our honeymoon destination I was on Ovysmen and I remember feeling really well. Since starting Cerazette I can only remember occasions of being asleep on the sofa, panic, bad thoughts and unconsolable tears in which I told my fiancé or parents I was feeling violent and I deserved to be locked up.

Any suggestions? I'd love to hear other experiences of this pill in case it's just me.

    Thanks

    Hello miss,

I stumbled across this and didn't see anyone had replied.

Basically here's my story - I had a completely fine experience on cerazette the first time I took it for almost 4 years. Then came off it after it started to make my skin really horrible. I started taking it again after I got with my current partner (2 years ago) and wow. I had every side effect under the sun. I remember being slumped in my hallway crying down the phone to my friend asking her where it had all gone wrong I was inconsolable. I wanted to Hurt my boyfriend, my sex drive was non existent, I gained 2 almost 3 stone, everything I could deal with even the spotty skin but I genuinely felt like I was loosing my mind.

My advice would be to immediately stop taking it. After trying almost every contraceptive there is, I now have the copper coil and it has no hormones - apart my periods being heavier - they're also shorter.

U must not feel like you NEED to do this to yourself.

Stop taking your pill, find something else, be happy, and have a lovely wedding. As soon as you stop you'll feel better over night I promise you.

    H xx

I truly have so much sympathy for you. I felt the exact same way on birth control. I could not control my mood swings what so ever. Sometimes the pill isn't for everyone and I'm sure your fiance (maybe now husband?) is a great guy, but if this is making you depressed and making you gain weight, you don't NEED to take it. He should be more understanding, but it's probably hard from his standpoint because he doesn't really know what you're feeling or going through. I would make an appointment with your doctor to see if you can (if you haven't already) get on something else. Please reply back to let us know how it is going.
