    switching dosages

    Hello,

I'm new here. I'm from New York, but living abroad in India right now, so I depend on message boards sometimes to get some of that "back home" advice that I can't get here in Mumbai.

I've been on a generic form of Lo-Ovral 28 "Cryselle" for about 3yrs (I'm 30 now) with no side effects and an a very predictable, regular period. My mom has mailed my next set of pills from NY, but alas...the package has not yet arrived (gotta love customs). I've been investigating birth control available in India just in case the package doesn't arrive in time and I need to start something new. BCPs are NOT prescription only here, but they are limited on the types they have. I had previously read elsewhere that Lo-Ovral and ovral (non generic) have been found available in India, but apparently not in my area. I did find Ovral-G though. This pill and my regular pill have the same hormones, but Cryselle is .3/.03mg and Ovral-G is .5/.05mg Not a HUGE difference, but enough to make me wonder.

Has anyone made a similar switch? Would there be major side effects? I would plan to start the new pill exactly when I should start a new pack of my regular pill. What kind of side effects (If any) should I expect?

    Thanks for your help!

I've been told that when switching from one brand to another, even if they are basically similar but only have different names; give it 7 days to get into your system and then consider yourself protected.

When I switched to a higher dosage (also a completely different brand) the first 2 days I was so nauseous. But after that I felt great.

Just remember that with any pill, the side effects will be different for everyone. So you might not no if you will have side effects till you take the pill. Hope your package gets there soon!
