    Birth control interactions

I am on microgestin 1.5/30. I was recently prescribed protonix 40 mg and desipramine (taking half of a 25 mg tablet). Will either one of these drugs interfere with my birth control pregnancy wise? Will it make my birth control less effective?

The best thing to do is ask your doctor. If the same doctor has prescribed all of them, you're probably OK. If different doctors have prescribed them, read the info that comes with the meds--that may tell you something if you can wade through it all.

Antibiotics are the main thing that can interfere with birth control. One of your medications is for acid reflux and the other a tricyclic antidepressant. Unlikely that either would effect birth control. If tricyclics impacted birth control I'd be screwed because I've probably been on every one of them at some time or another.

I agree with Kira. You should use the medicines as your doctor prescribed.
