Birth Control, Pregnancy, and Ovulation?
I started taking birth control (junel 21 day cycle) on March 3rd and then got my period on the 26th. I missed taking the pill on March 9th and March 16th (not sure if this is important but I thought I'd include it anyways). Obviously I stopped taking it for that week I got my period (the 26th) and then started up with the second pack on Sunday March 30th. I then missed a pill on Saturday April 5th. When would I ovulate? I get super confused when on birth control. I know you can only get pregnant when you're ovulating, correct? So how come whenever someone talks about missing a pill anywhere in their cycle, they usually end up getting pregnant? I know this is a really stupid question but it confuses the hell out of me lol. So for example if I missed my pill on April 17th and then had unprotected sex the next day, would I get pregnant even if that wasn't the time I was ovulating? My friend missed a few pills and got pregnant but she said that it wasn't even around her ovulation time so that's why I got so confused...Anyone? -
I hate to say it but a lot of women have NO IDEA when they're ovulating, that's why they have those ovulation kits for women who are TRYING to get pregnant. Also, if you're NOT ovulating there's no chance of getting pregnant, ovulation has to happen for pregnancy. Before modern b/c the only way to practice b/c was to know when you were ovulating and NOT have sex for the next few days. The egg can be fertilized up to 24 hours after ovulation but still has to implant which can take 6-12 days. Hormonal b/c thickens the lining of the uterus to make this more difficult, so IF b/c is being used regularly and properly, the chance of ONE missed pill leading to pregnancy is actually VERY small. Now as all women are different it can occur, but it's considered 98-99% effective because it's rare. -
I used to skip a pill a week on purpose in order to extend my cycle when using yasmin. Did it for years with no pregnancy. Tried to get an IUD when my insurance ran out but that didn't work and got on seasonique which is a 3 month cycle. I can't miss a seasonique like I did yasmin but not because of pregnancy risk. I start bleeding if I miss just one pill and sometimes it won't stop so I have to just let my period happen and then I put the extra pills on to the next cycle. I know to save confusion they say to throw the rest of the pack away and start a new one when that happens but I'll take any chance to lessen how often I have my period. I'd also have to get a doctor to call in to my insurance to approve a new pack earlier than it should be. Great doctor but her office staff are the most frustrating people and we try to avoid dealing with them.Comment

I spent 4-6 months having appointments rescheduled and rescheduled over the IUD. They kept saying it didn't get ordered or they don't know what happened. I got in the mail from them a coupon for a free IUD from planned parenthood but I thought I was getting one through my regular doctor so I ignored it. Then the head of the staff takes me in to her office acting all accusatory and upset with me. She said my insurance didn't cover it, they couldn't get a hold of anyone on the phone, and they sent me information about a free IUD program. I updated the phone number 3 times earlier on paperwork and it never went to the computer and she had my file open right there so I tried to give her the number and she cut me off. She acted like they sent this whole letter and such about the free IUD and all I got was a random coupon that I had no idea why. It's not my fault the people making the appointments didn't get told by the people above them that the IUD couldn't be ordered and it's not my fault they failed to update the phone number repeatedly.Comment

Welcome to the U.S health care system over the pass few years the quality of health care has gone down hill. They have untrained people working the phone always making excuses when somethings go's wrong passing the buck it's a lost cause. My wife been waiting 6 mos to get a MRI on her back and every time we call they either don't answer the phone or you get this attitude from the other person on the line let me take your number and someone will call you back and guess what no one calls back with you. It's a complete joke and will not get better but they sure know how to over charge the insurance companies for crappy services.I spent 4-6 months having appointments rescheduled and rescheduled over the IUD.
