Well, first of all, this is my first post, so hi everyone! This site gives amazing advice and has helped me in this past.

So, my story is, I've had the Nexplanon contraceptive implant for a year and 8 months, and I have loved it. It's been no hassle at all with minimal side effects. Normally, with this implant, I get semi-regular light periods every 4 - 5 weeks, I'm not very good at keeping track. Anyway, recently I had a very very light period in place of my usual one, and it lasted not even 24 hours. And now, a few days afterwards my breasts are feeling very sore and look rather swollen. I have also been getting very very mood swingy the last couple of weeks. These are all symptoms I have never experienced before, especially not breast tenderness AFTER an apparent period. What do you guys think it could be? Maybe it's just stress?

Oh, and a little background information, I'm a young, healthy woman with an active sex life who has never had a pregnancy.

Thanks guys, hopefully you'll all be able to ease my mind as I'm sure I'm worrying about nothing since the implant is so effective.

Unfortunately I don't know anything about Nexplanon. And all I can say about your symptoms is ....stuff happens. Have you talked to your doctor about it? I wouldn't be too worried about pregnancy if you didn't miss your period.

Your body often steadily reacts differently to a hormonal birth control method the longer you take it. Every few months the effects might change a little especially if your activity level or possibly even sun exposure changes. There are also herbal supplements and medications like antibiotics or antidepressants that can impact your cycle. Aside from a few antibiotics most things won't lessen how effective your birth control is even if it changes your reaction to it. If you are concerned call your pharmacist or doctor.
