I have not had a period for 2 1/2 years and just got out of a marriage with a guy that had a Vasectomy so I didn't worry about Birth Control as I had to go off it when I got blood clots in my lungs and that was the only thing they could figure could had caused them. I have not had a period since going off. But now I am involved with a very great guy but don't know if we need to use something, I don't know if I have gone thru menopause either. I will soon be 50 and really don't know what to do. We have been unprotected sex for a month now really don't know how to bring it up to him either.

These are great questions for your doctor. They can best address all your concerns and check hormone levels.
And BTW, if you're comfortable enough to have sex with your new guy, you should be comfortable discussing the need for protection from both pregnancy and STD risks.

Because you had a bad reaction to the hormonal birth control, and it did cause blood clots (A well known, scary side effect), I'd say, if you're really looking to be on some form of birth control, and not condoms, look into a IUD, and talk to your doctor about which options are best for you. Also, if you're involved with someone,and you care about them, and vise versa, and you trust them enough to share your body with them, you should also be able to share your mind, and if he cares for you, he'll listen and you two can talk about what's on your mind, maybe after a doctor's visit so you know your options! good luck!
