Birth control pill causing mood changes and irritability?

I just started Alesse birth control pills 9 days ago and have been feeling extremely emotional, upset and irritable, getting angry about every little thing. Could side effects of the pill start this early? And will they eventually go away?

    Yes to both questions.

If it doesn't go away in two or three months, ask your doctor to switch you to a different pill. If it's too bad to wait that long, ask sooner, but try to give it some time.

Maybe and maybe. Everyone reacts differently to hormonal birth control and everyone reacts differently to every brand of pill. Pretty much anything can happen, good or bad. Trying out a few different ones is a good idea before giving it up. I've been on several that were absolutely horrid for me, I doubled my weight on lybrel, and 2 pills that work great and the nuvaring mostly works great. I am a little too small for the size of the nuvaring which is a common problem so it works fine but it sticks out a little and is irritating sometimes. Since I have no problem remembering pills I will happily take my seasonique that not only has no side effects for me it gets rid of tons of hormonal symptoms I have and I have about one light day of bleeding every 3 months. Can't beat that. I think I'll just stay on it for life despite my husband having a vasectomy.
