    taking bc...

i was wondering does it really matter if you take your bc pills at the same time every day? i mean they say you should, but does it do anything if you take it at different times? it's hard to remember.
    thanks

It depends on what type of pill you are using. The combo birth control pills are more flexible time between pills...something like a 12 hour window...so, 24-36 hours between each pill. BUT, the mini-pills, progesterone only pills (POPs) are not as forgiving. Each dose must be taken w/in 3 hrs of the last dose...so, 24-27 hours between each pill. If you miss that 3 hour window you need to use backup birth control for the next 48 hours - condoms.

I just recently switched from combo to mini, so have read up on it, but please check with your doctor for any questions that you have about the birth control you use.

You should always try and take your pill at the same time each day because its the most effective that way. Ive had a friend who missed taking it by a few hours for a couple days due to a work confrence and ended up getting pregnant...so you should have an alarm on your phone or something to remind you to take at the right time. Especially if you use it as your only form of bc!

I was on the combo pill for 20 yrs. and the times I would take it fluctuated wildly sometimes. Often on the weekends I would take it up to 6 hrs. later than on the weekdays. I never got pregnant. However, yes, you are correct...it is best to take it at the same time everyday, especially if you are on the mini-pill.
