    very large ovarian cyst

    hello all im new here

i have a large cyst on my right ovary and my pre op is in the morning. im scheduled for surgery on the 8th jan.
im am so scared, i am shaking all the time

i went to the doctors backin sept as my stomach was growing and my periods had become irregular.

    i was sent for ultrasound and was told i have a 27cm by 27cm b7 17cm cyst.
i was in deep shock, i had no idea, i just thought i had gained weight

it isnow very uncomfortable, i keep getting indegestion and everytimei bend, cough or sneeze i wet myself.

its not the opim afraid of, but the anastheisia, im so scared i will die on the table and inside im screaming and want to run away.
    is this a normal reaction?

i need a laparotomy and they will take 1 of my ovaries. im 42. they originally said i need a hysaterectomy, buti didnt want that and got a 2nd opinion at another hospital. im just having the cyst and 1 ovary removed.

i havve gained 24kilos with this cyst and surgeon says its the biggest he has seen and wont know exactly what he wil do until im opened up

each day it gets nearer to the op the more im scared. has anyone elsehad a cyst this big? what can i expect? i have already have lots of tests.

    Hi cassie

I have just read your post and wanted to reply. i am sorry to hear you are going through all this at the moment. I myself havent had to go through what you are having to deal with right now but i can tell you that my Mum did. A few years ago my Mum noticed her belly getting bigger, said she couldnt be preggers as she had trouble and couldnt have anymore kids after me unfortunately but she went to the doctors and got referred and they found an endometrial cyst on her ovary, it was benign but was very fast growing it grew eventually to the size of a watermelon it was and no joke, massive so obviously she had to have an operation on it to remove it. what i want to tell you is that she had the op and she also had to have her ovary taken away like you but she was fine, she had the surgery, they didnt need to take anything else other than the cyst and ovary and the operation went well, she had to rest for a while and now she said she feels absolutely fine, she has never had any further problems since the op. i can fully understand that you are scared of going under, i have a fear of that also but one thing i do think is just how experienced the surgeons are, they will do there very best for you. i dont know if i have helped on not really but i like to think maybe i have a little. please dont worry too much and put yourself in their hands so they can take the cyst away for you. i hope all goes well and i am sure it will, keep us posted. x

Cassie I know its been a few years wanted to ask you how you are? I too have a HUGE cyst on my left ovary. I go in for a CT scan to try to rule out cancer. I am petrified. Where they ever worried your cyst was cancerous? the only think I know for sure is that I will have surgery to remove this but not sure what else is going on until I get the CT results back.
