I recently had an emergency appendectomy and while the surgeon was in me, he discovered I had a chocolate cyst on my ovary that burst. Severe endometriosis was also discovered.

It turns out the intense pelvic pain I was having ended up being the cyst slowly rupturing. My endometriosis has progressed so much, my left ovary has actually been pushed behind my uterus.

Long story short, the doc wants me to take Lupron to stop my period and help weaken all the endometrial tissue that's been built up.

I'm 26 and extremely nervous about putting my body in a menopausal state. Are there any women out there who have tried Lupron or other ways to treat endometriosis?

I was in my young 20's when I was diag. w/ endo. and cysts. I had laparoscopy surgery to remove the cysts & endo. They wanted me to do lupron & I said no way. Good luck w/ whatever u decide.

I too have endometriosis. I had surgery, a D&C and cyst removal, in december. Before that I was on 3 (yes three) types of birth control to try and stop my period. The goal was to stop ovulation because each time you ovulate, the cysts grow. (Or something like that, I don't remember word for word.) It didn't work for me but has for others.

Lupron was never suggested.

I started Lupron last Oct 08, I finished my last injection 2 months ago. I put it off for years, but finally did it. I want children in the future and by not treating it I was only decreasing the chances. For me it was not to bad, at first completely on fun, the hotflashes are the worse and swear they \start within forst 24 hours. Then the mood swings come, god bless anyone putting up with me, fortunately everyone knew what to expect so they tolerated and blew it off! But other than that the only other problem I had was not being able to sleep at night but again I think from not being comfortable from sweating so much. My dr had me do the add back therapy with it (hormones low dose) and after first month I forgot to take it a few days in a row and realized I felt better without it. Apparently extremely uncommon! After the 3rd shot I started adjusting to it and didn't have the mood swings as often and the sweats were less also. I finished a 6month period of shots. It has been to months w/out a period and I feel so much better, once I stopped getting a cycle (for me was after my 2nd shot) I had no more cramps or anything and face it, it was noce not to deal with a cycle each month. The only slight medical problem I had, but they are not sure if it is relateld to Lupron or not is my thyroid swelled up, but never changed in function all levels still normal to this day, so will most likely go back to normal once everything else does. I was very hesitant to do this drug afer researching online and hearing what so many people had to say, but I think one of the better decisions I have made yet. Also no joke it does change your sex drive and that whole department just like you are in menopause but 1 week after my next shot would have been due, but was done, everything bouncing back to normal fast!!! It is like going through puberty again, but the good things about it!!

I realize your post is a few years old. But honestly it is the first hopeful blog I have read in regards to Lupron and Endo. I was just diagnosed last week with the Lap and Dr. wants to start me on Lupron ASAP. Im 24 so the thought of going through menopause is freakishly freaking my out!!!!! Any one else who has survived Lupron please share your stories!!! Any advice is extremly appreciated.

I'm 25 years old and was diagnosed with Endo in November. I had the laparoscopy and am now in the middle of the Lupron treatment. I've read so many blogs and forums about this drug and the side effects. I believe the severity of the symptoms vary from person to person so don't be completely scared off. With that being said, my experience hasn't been entirely wonderful; but if I had to do it again and if this is the only way to preserve my chance to have children, I would gladly do it again.

My biggest complaint is trouble sleeping, I wake up almost every night around 3am wide awake. This lasts the first few weeks of the shots; but my Dr. prescribed Ambien to help combat this which helps. I've also had pretty severe headaches. They can come on suddenly when standing up (also becoming very light headed) but will dissipate within seconds... or sometimes last for hours. Ibuprofen helps sometimes. I've also noticed the mood changes. I keep saying that I'm in a 'funk'. I find myself becoming irritated for the smallest reasons and having a lot of difficulty getting out of bad moods.
I think I've had bits of most of the other symptoms; Nightsweats (only 1 night), tightness in my chest (a few times), hot flashes (rarely), forgetfulness, exhaustion.

But I'm posting on here to tell people who have concerns, with all of these symptoms, I would take Lupron again. But you must be aware of all the symptoms (so you dont think you're going nuts or getting sick)... but also so you can try to stay on top of the mood changes. I wanted to add my two bits to this thread for anyone else looking into Lupron. My experience has been great. The two things that I experienced were major hot flashes and decreased sex drive (at first). I have level 4 endo and had multiple chocolate cysts when I had my laproscopy. The relief that I had being on the lupron shot and the pain that I was no longer having was SO WORTH IT. I would much experience some of these side affects than go through the major pain of the alternative. Hot flashes are really not that bad, just dress in layers and keep an ice cold drink around. Oh yeah I did have night sweats for the first little bit, but again, way easier to deal with than the horrible pain of endometriosis. PLUS, it may heal it enough to enable having kids. I have been on the shot for 4 months and my period ended immediately.

Hopeful Lupron Works!

I have just started the Lupron Shots with 11 shots to go. I had a massive headache & a hot flashes but this has been normal for me due to the fact I was taking cylomen for the last 8 months which failed. This is my last resort to help me. I am stage 4 endometriosis and been to many doctors and two different Fertility Clinics. I am so exausted from from the agony I have endured for years. Massive Hemoraghing every month iron levels of 2 constant stabbing pains, having pain so extreme I would vomit. I was unable to go to work for days at a time every single month. I took the cyclomen with the hopes of my cycle disapating. Unfortunately it did not work. Now my last option is Lupron. I am praying that this monthly shot reduces my problems. I need to have some sort of life as my husband has endured all my issues for years. Even prior to our marriage he still decided to marry me. He loved me no matter what. I am very blessed to have him in my life other wise I do not know that I would have come as far as I thank you for sharing your experience because I was so sceptacle about the Lupron Shot. I feel it is worth the side effects & the risks to get some relief. I can't go on the way I am. I am keeping the faith that this will work for me. I will post as I go on taking the shots to let others no how I react. I just hope this works for me. Good Luck to anyone else looking for relief. I am putting 100% into finding a cure to my constant agony.

hi, im 16. i have had a laproscopy and hysteroscopy about 2 years ago. my doctor did not find anything but was almost sure i had endometriosis. we have been working for a diagnosis for over 2 years. they just had me start my first luron shot about 2 weeks ago, i was on my period at the time but it stopped. i now started bleeding again and it is heavy. i have tried looking to see if this is bad or not but have not found anything. can anyone help me find out if bleeding heavy on this medication is bad? mine is a 3.75mg taken once a month for 3-6 months depending on if it is helping. i would really appreciate the good and bad opinions on this medicine and info on when to see your doctor in case something bad is happening. thanks
