    resistant BV

    Hi everyone,
Just joined today..this is kind of similar to a previous post about chronic BV. Back in July i noticed discharge and was very itchy, I went to student health, she told me it was yeast and I took an OTC for it. The discharge seemed to go away for a bit but then it came back. I went again to a doctor and they foudn BV and treated me for it with metronidazole. It didn't go away so i went back a week and a half later and they gave me another week long doseage of it (twice a day, 7 days). It still didn't go away, and because of no insurance i didn't go back to the doctor for awhile. Finally i just ended up going to planned parenthood, and once again they found clue cells and gave me metronidazole again. My PH is a 4 (and i believe with BV it's usually more than 4.5), but i have the symptoms of the fishy smelling discharge and clue cells showed up on the wet slide. When i had told them I had already taken metronidazole twice, they gave me another treatment of it anyways. When i asked for another medication they said that's the only one they gave. Of course I've taken it for a week now and nothing has improved.
My skin is starting to get highly irritated from the discharge, and it's itchy to the point that it's gotten sore.
I really don't know what to do!!! I've followed all precautions and taken all the hygeine measurements they told me to follow (something i've been doing for years anyways because i suffer from vulvodynia and VVS) I don't get why it's not going away and it kind of scares me that i've had it since JULY.
Has anyone found any other treatment successful such as clindamycin? What about any natural remedies?

I too suffer from chronic bv. I have had it alot this year and I am fe up with it just like you. The doctor recently put me on a i guess insert therapy where i am suppose to insert the metrogel in twice a week. However, I don't think its working cuz not am i trying to deal with getting rid of that, the meds give me a yeast infection. Errrr! What makes it confusing is I get mild symptoms, mainly just the discharge, which can be confusing to figure out which is the yeast or bv and then have to go to the doc. I know i have tried acidophyllus pills that you can by at the drug store that help a little bit to help prevent it. Also take your vitamins too. I have seen websites that have home remedies one that I want to try is to soak in tea tree oil and see if actually works. Your not along and I know how frustrating this is. It definitely ruins the sex life. I hope some of this helps.

ladies im so sorry that bv is making your life . I am also a suffer I refuse to take metrodonziole one more **** time. A lady at the herbal store told the metro removes the unwanted bacterial but does replace what we need therefore it only goes away temporarily.

I used to get bv every other month but now I do not get it as frequently. The lady at the herbal store gave a supplement called biphosiflous the spelling is kind off but it is similiar to acidiophillis. I went on a ten day treatment. She instructed me to take 2 pills orally and insert 2 pills vaginally. After that treatment I continued the oral treatment for 30 days. I went bv free for about 4mths.

i also started thinking about all the metrodonizale that I allowed in my body. 1000 mg a day for 7days every other month. So in a average 6 month time frame I put over 10,000 mg of meds in my body.

after coming to that conclusion I went on a master cleanser diet for about 7 days. You can google for more info, ingredients are lemon, cayenne pepper and grade d maple syrup.

I still research this issue a lot because I refuse to believe that their is nothing out there that can balance our PH levels

I have not had bv since aug 2006. I am now taking a product called botantcial advantage for chronic vaginal infections. Its a all natural product .
so far so good ladies. Website infor
I hope they come up with something soon for us so we can be bv free for good.

      good luck

        resistant bv

I have posted on another bv site as well - My symptoms are - discharge, minor swelling, some itching and a really bad odor after sex. The symptoms start right after my period and sometimes will go away right before my period. I have dealt with this bv for years - I believe the cause is that my ph and my husband's ph just don't "click". I am soooooo tired of flagyl - it only works for a week on me.

What I'm doing now is fairly cheap and easy. I take the "botanical advantage" herbs, but I also use a vaginal wash of hydrogen peroxide - 7 days after my period and after sex.

To the person who wants to try tea tree oil: I read that you can soak a tampon in it, insert it for an hour or so - that's "supposed" to work - it did nothing for me except make me burn down there. It's difficult to dilute it with water because it's an oil. A few times I have put a couple drops in my peroxide vaginal wash for a fresher feeling.
Alas, nothing I have ever tried actually gets rid of the problem. I'm just glad that my husband understands and isn't grssed out by any of it.
        Good Luck

          Bv!

About 2 years ago, I noticed a yellowy discharge that had a foul smelling odour. I went to my local GUM clinic where they told me I had BV. I got given antibiotics which had terrible side affects, headaches, stomach pains etc. I had to stop taking them as they kept makin me throw up due to the taste it leaves in your mouth. It went away for a while. I now have a new boyfriend of a year and it has now returned =( Iv read that sex, wearing thongs, tampons etc make it return. what am I supposed to do, become a Nun?! Iv returned to my GP where they have given me the same antibiotics which are making me throw up again. After readin comments from all diffrent women its worried me as to how long im gonna have it and how long itl take for it 2 go away! Some women have had it for years and years with it going away and then coming back? is there actually a cure for this for life or do I have to keep worrying?? x

i thought i was the only one with this annoying odor and its killing me. it comes ryt after my period then disappears for a while then after a few weeks its back. i am tired of taking metranidazole(hope thats the spelling). i have been given the same medication over and over again. and it makes me throw up cuz its so bitter. but i heard that you can mix vinegar and water and use it to wash up. it has actually kind of helped but sometimes the smell still comes back. somebody needs to come up with some kind treatment but i am gonna try the botanical advantage

Has anyone in this forum found success at all? I was planning on trying Femdophilus from Jarrow.com

Hello, i have just registered on the site so am completely new.
I too suffer with BV and have done for aprox 12 months. About two years ago i was suffering from acute pelvic pain and went for an ultrasound to check for endometriosis. But everything seemed normal in the ovary department. When i first noticed the discharge and fishy odour, i initally thought i had some awful STD and was convinced my partner has cheated on me. After a month or too of constant worry and contant washing, i went to my GP who after swab testing confirmed BV. It was a relief to know it wasn't something more sinister. But the metronidazole tablets made me feel really dizzy and my arms kept going numb. But after the tablet my pelvic pain ahd disappear so prehaps i had BV for a long time without any symptoms. I am a student in the health profession and knew the awful side effects of metranidazole that i have seen my patients experience on this antibiotic.
I am glad i stumbled across this forum today as the BV has reoccured again. I wanted to know if there was a relationship between finishing a period and BV as i have noticed like a lot of you ladies that i seem to get it for a few days after my period has finished. I use tampons and now think that may be part of the problem as i am a light bleeder and may be removing the good bacteria by using them. Has anyone tried using sanitary towels and noticed a difference?
I am going to look into "botanical advantage" as i have not heard of it in the UK. We have a product called vagisil here with i have as a wash and talcum powder but dont think it really works.

I know this is reply is a million years after you posted this, but i also get BV right after my period, i NEVER EVER EVER had BV in my life till i got the Paragard (IUD) birth control device, wow that was the biggest mistake of my life. Well i got it out a mnt later bc of BV and pelvic pain, and the BV dissapeared and BUT now comes after every period! how screwed up is that!?, i decided to get the Mirena IUD, and i am okay with the pain, but still have the BV after my period. I have been tested for everything and its only BV, i am in a commited relationship and this is such Bull$%#! They keep prescribing this med called Tindamax, and it works wonders, but the BV keeps coming back....i am so fed up with it!.....just reading this forums, i know i am NOT alone, and that helps, but LADIES... THEY NEED TO FIND A CURE OR SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
