Hi Whitnaye. I also suffer from this and get bouts of it nearly every time I get rundown or sick with something else. You need to start taking L-lysine tablets. L-lysine is a natural amino acid that assists to reduce the severity and frequency of oral and genital herpes. The recommended dosage is 1000mg per day (usually 2 tablets per day with food). Obviously since the most obvious sign of herpes is the painful sore(s)/blister(s) on oral/vaginal lips I usually apply blistex ointment at the first sign of itching, pain or tingling followed by zovirax (and yes - I use these ones for vaginal herpes as well). The blistex is especially good as it completely numbs the pain. Alpha Keri lotion is also good for the genital region to stop the itching feeling. With painful urination - you can sit in a cool bath to urinate or drink plenty of fluids to dilute the urine and make it less acidic, which will then be less painful to pass. Try and stick to lose cotton underwear for more comfort and take panadol as well for pain if needed. One of the important things to remember with genital herpes is protected sex with condoms, as you can often have the condition without having any blisters or sores present (often just a white discharge). You also probably should try to get to a doctor to have it properly diagnosed since it is classed as an STD. Anyway, good luck with it.
