bleeding 18+ days
I am 31y old and have 2 kids. I am not on any kind of birth control and have'nt taken any for 16yrs. My periods are very regular they come like clockwork. My period comes every 29-30 days and lasts about 4-6 days. I have a very heavy flow and always have quarter size clots or smaller. This lasts the whole time. Last cycle I had some very light spotting for about 5 days between my periods no cramping nothing of significance. This cycle I started right on time no changes with it until 1 day after my period ended. I started flowing again much heavier and with half dollar size clots. I am also experiencing severe cramping, lightheadedness and a headache +5 days. It has been constant when the day starts out it is spotting but progressively gets heavier as the day goes on. I am very worried and can't get an appointment for another couple of weeks. Should I seek more immediate care?

I experienced this a couple years ago and developed iron deficiancy anemia as a result, it's good that you are getting into your doctor... try to make it in sooner if you start feeling shortness of breath, become cyanotic (blue lips, etc). They put me on iron pills and played the wait and see game on why my period wouldn't quit. It ended up lasting about 3 months in which I was so weak and Ill, then stopping only to start again and last a month etc. This went on to the point they were thinking I needed a mirena IUD or even hysterectomy if it didnt stop.
I did neither and just focused on diet and exercise as I lost weight my periods returned to normal and have since. It could be anything causing your periods to last this long but its important to see a doc and find out why and make sure you are not becoming anemic from loss of blood.Scars remind us of where we've been...they don't have to dictate where we're going.Comment
