I have been on Metronidazole twice and it only helps for a little bit and then my symptoms come back. The medicine is horrible too I throw up every time I'm on it. I don't have a stabbing pain though. My symptoms are weird because it's like a mixture of a bladder infection and yeast infection. They include: itching like crazy, the feeling I have to pee right after I go, a little bit of pain when I wipe or use tampoons-it's not really a stabbing kind of pain though, just sore, and also clumpy discharge. If you think you have Strep B I would just ask to have a urine culture done and they will be able to tell
Mine was a swab test as well, the Gyno, got three cultures. Xxpaula, I felt many times on these tablets about throwing up, however, previously I have been having just normal cramping pains. I did once however, and it knocked me around the next day, which wasn't really good as I had to go to work the next day. Work isn't really tolerable to people taking time off, but that's another story.

I have the itch like crazy front and back, pain when going to pee, the vulva enlarges, as well as a crazy smell, as well as the vulva is sore to touch in terms of using toilet paper.

Good luck and keep in touch.

Well, I have been doing a lot of research and seen two gynos, Strep B and BV are not the same, dont know why I thought they are, they are both very similar and have similar issues. the Doc is now testing for Thrush and other areas which never was shown in the previous tests I have had.

Here's hoping whatever it is goes away for a real long time.

          my story

i have been a chronic BV sufferer for over 6 years. Most recently it came back and without a rest i had it for 1 year. I was disgusted with myself and felt like my GYN was not listening. It wasnt until i met with a new NP that things took a turn. I had been given an unlimited prescription to metro gel because my GYN is a and was prepared to allow me to jelly my vagina for the rest of my days instead of researching a different option (sorry, still kind of bitter lol) My symptoms would disappear for a couple days and return. It was explained to me like this: the pH of your vagina is and SHOULD BE around a 4 (more acidic than the rest of your body, which is a 7) and this is mainly due to the flora of your vagina, especially lactobacillus, that maintains this pH level. During sex, the pH is disrupted mainly because semen has a pH of around 7, which on a sensitive vagina can provide an opportunity for bacteria such as gardnerella (main culprit of BV) and Candida (yeast) to grow out of control and take over. If you can decrease the pH and continue increasing the levels of Lactobacillus which will then MAINTAIN the pH level of your vagina - you'll be back on track in no time! Here was my regimen, hope it helps!
*Remember i had already killed the excess gardnerella due to the repeated metro gel application by this point. if that is not your case, you may need to start with a round of metro gel.
-I took two doses of Diflucan. Due to the excessive metro gel i had created an environment for the Candida to grow out of control (they arent affected by metro gel), so 1st things 1st - KILL THE YEAST.
-She prescribed boric acid suppositories (i had to get these from a compound pharmacy) for 2 full weeks, inserted vaginally at night. Then use the suppositories 2-3 times per week for the next 3 months. might seem like a long time but WELL worth it.
-I immediately increased my dose to 2 capsules of Femdophilus (this stuff is AWESOME) had to get this at a vitamin store, although pretty inexpensive online purchase too.
-refrain from sexual intercourse for the 2 weeks. I have not personally had sex since that time but am nervous that at this early stage, it might restart the symptoms, so i would plan to use the suppository the night after sex - just in case.

*** ALSO, due to the changes and disruption to the flora of my vagina, i asked that the levels of the normal flora of my vagina be tested (something they will not do unless asked or actually care). It was found that the normal levels for Group Strep B had gotten out of control. This will be the last leg of a VERRRRY long battle. I will post an update once i have a regimen that worked for this final step. Good luck!
