Cant get rid of yeast... please help!

    Hi ladies,
ok... so about 2 months ago i started noticing a vaginal discharge with a strange odor. I immediately made an appointment with my obgyn and was diagnosed with a yeast infection. The only symptom i have is the discharge, no itching, burning, swelling, etc.
I was put on a 1 time oral pill which was supposed to clear everything up. It didnt! so i went back week 2 where i was then told i have bv (i have had it before) and given the same medication, still didnt clear up. By then i got my period but went back the week after, where i was told it is still bv, was then put on a 5 day treatment of metrogel, which still did not work. now i have been back for the 4th time, where i was told i had a yeast infection again, given the oral pill but it is now 5 days later and it is still not gone.
What can i do? this is so uncomfortable, especially when with someone else, and every other time i had bv, metrogel always cleared it up right away. Is it safe to now just try an over the counter treatment? do these work for you? i am so frustrated and slighlty nervous. I had my pap as well last week and everything is normal. am i going to have to live with this forever?
    Thank you!!!

Yeast can be a toughie. Do you have a sexual partner? He should be treated too, he may not have symptoms but may reinfect you. You may find reading, The Yeast Connection, helpful for some diet and lifestyle changes to better control the causes.

This might not work for you but if you're keen try bathing in bicarbonate of soda

This is am old, old method on treating the symptoms of a yeast infection. I would get them all the time and even using the medication, the symptoms are still there and sometimes they would not get better. I ran across a homeopathic site that recommended using a clove of peeled garlic to kill the yeast. I was very weary of this, but it's common knowledge that garlic kills yeast in cooking, and it it would to the same in a vagina. Well finally so frustrated with itching and no cream was working I decided to get a peeled, clove of garlic and insert it into my vagina,... and it was almost immediate that the itching got less, and then none at all. Some advise to to put a string to it so it doesn't get lost in there, but I never had trouble finding it or even pushing it out.

I tell you know that is all I do. 3 days of sleeping with a clove has worked for me for 3 years now. The weirder side effect is that you smell nothing but garlic. No one else can smell you as garlic, but you can't help but smell it everywhere because it's inside you.

I can say undoubtedly that this has cured me over and over again. I have had yeast infections since I was 10, so it's nice to know there is something cheap and reliant on the shelves,... of the produce department! LOL

A less... scented option (although, more messy) is plain, natural, yogurt. The probiotics help restore balance to the vagina, and helps cure yeast infections. Just insert directly, wear a pad, and go about your day. Change the pad every couple of hours, and reapply as needed.

            Diva,

When you take Metro get you might develop a yeast infection. It is an antibiotic, so that often happens when you take antibiotics. If you are prone to these, I suggest taking the gel AND a diflucan pill (to prevent yeast) AND probiotics (orally), AND folic acid 3X daily at 400 mcg/dose (1200 daily), AND get on a birth control method that prevents you from having your period. The blood makes your vagina more 'neutral' which is better for bacteria and yeast. Same with semen. So if you can cure your BV and prevent period for a while, you might be able to get good bacteria to grow again to fight off bad bac from forming again. Then prevent it by always using condoms (semen changes pH to around 7 - neutral - so that they don't die in the acidic environment of the vagina). Your vagina should be around 3.5 - to 4.5 typically in a healthy environment. This pH kills yeast and bad bac.

....Oh! And there is something called VH Essentials which has boric acid in it. Many women swear by it. I have never tried it, but I might.

What really worked for me was the Gel (2nd time around 5 day twice a day) and the gyno swabbed inside me with Iodine. It kills yeast AND bacteria. Then I did the gel. I was prego at the time so I also didn't get my period. Then I nursed so I didn't get a period for a long time. RIGHT before I got my period after stopping nursing, I had symptoms again. I got my period 3 times (!!!) in about a month and a half, so the gel didn't work because I kept having a 'favorable' environment for the bac to grow.

              Hope it helps!
