Sex during 4-5th day of Menstrual cycle to avoid pregnancy w/o any protection!

My boyfriend and I just found out about having sex during menstrual cycle is safe. His cousin told him that he had sex on wedding night without using any protection but his wife was on period that night...she never became pregnant by using this method.
I did a lot of research but not getting a definite answer whether or not if it's safe to have sex during menstrual cycle and avoid pregnancy!

Please answer someone who has already been through this!!!

    No no, it's not safe!

Yes it's less likely for a woman to become pregnant during this time, as typically a woman's ovulation doesn't occur during menstruation. But, there have been plenty of "period babies" regardless of that, so be careful!

Have you looked into birth control options?

Having unprotected sex during the menstrual cycle can be risky. I have read that sperm lives for a few days. If you don't want to have kids, be wise and use protection.
