hi there i need some advise a week ago my fiance and i made love and i now have a uti my dr has put me on antibiotics for a week 2 a day... during thiis week i have had a high tempreture and felt like i am having panic attacts have had the shakes and sleeping alot pain in my lower back and feeling sick. i have been taking my antibiotics for 4 days and am still having a strong bearing down pain when i go to the toilet do u think it could be from the antibiotics or is it because i have a uti? have had a bladder infection before years ago and the antibiotcs cleared it up. but this time i have really been knocked off my feet.any advise would be helpful. thanks xxx

hello! i had the same problems back when i had my first UTI. I didnt know what it was, other than something me and my roomate joked about. I kept having to pee a lot and nothing would come out..then i started peeing blood. Thats when i knew it was bad. that night i peed blood i decieded that i would go to the school clinic to get med, but that night was the worst night of my life! i had the shakes so badly and chills up and down my spin, lower back pain, and a fever. the whole night i didnt stop shaking. the next morning i woke up early and went to the clinic and got the medicine. It took a few days for the pain and stuff to go away. but now i am prone to getting them. I had my 1st one in oct of 05 and then another one in dec 05 and then i had another one in may-june of 06 and thank god i have not had one since then. but the key is to follow all of their steps to avoid them
-being cautious of the type of soap you use(etc. scented body wash; i stay away from it!)
-peeing right after sex or any type of intercourse
-avioding bubble baths
-showering on a daily basis

i mean the list goes on but the one i never did was pee after sex, but now that is part of my routine! haha and once you feel even the slighest tingle or like heaviness in ur stomach drink at least 2 bottles of the ocean spray cranberry juice and lots & lots of WATER!!! it clears it right up!!

hi there i have been on antibiotics now for 5 days have just finished the course. have just started taking cranberry tablets which are stronger than just the juice. still in pain and loads of pressure so will be going back to the gp. cheers for the reply

peeing blood

hi every one, im new to all this me and my boyfriend has sex all this week from Monday up to today. Yesterday i had to pee ALOT but it would just be a little amount that came outbut after i finish peeing wit would hurt.....now today when i pee i notice that there was blood and still alot of pain.........i know its not coming from my Vagina so it has to be coming form the "pee hole" i really need help and advice im going to go to the GYN soon but im not sure when.........please help

Make sure they do a culture as well as check your urine for the lucocyte levels. There is also an analgesic medicine they can give you for the pain associated with the UTI. It starts with a P (can't remember the whole name) and is on the 4 dollar generic drug list at Wal-Mart. I recently had to do 2 different courses of antibiotics for a UTI. I also had one about 5 months ago. Both times there was alot of blood in my urine. If you still have that funky UTI feeling, keep going back until they give you something to kill it. The main thing to remember for sexually active people, is if the man "slips" and goes south of the vagina, stop everything, make him go wash himself and you do the same. Nomatter how clean you are, the anus has alot of bacteria and it only takes one lil bacteria to cause a major UTI. The same thing goes with wiping after urination. Always wipe from front to back. Never wipe from back to front EVER. I know it seems bassakwards, but it's one of your best defenses. Do not use antibacterial soaps. They kill our good bacteria who are there to kill the bad bacteria. Use the Summer's Eve Vaginal Wash instead. Also, don't wear tight clothes or hold your urine. If you have to pee, go pee right then. If there's no bathroom, a McDonald's cup or bush will work just fine.

I got kidney infections as a little girl a lot. I got married last summer. I thought at first it had something to do with that, I've always heard that newlyweds could have this problem. Less than a month ago, I had a UTI, which lasted for over a week. I never saw a doctor, just took Bactrium and drank cranberry juice, and sat on the toilet A LOT, which never accomplished much.
And TODAY I got another one!!! Ahhhh!!! All of a sudden too! I was peeing, and a horrible burning came and my bladder was throbbing I think. It was very hot too! I just want to lay in bed and sleep! I am afraid to go to the bathroom too!
If you get one UTI, is it common to get them often? I need to find out some questions so I can watch out for them inthe future...

I know how you feel. I've got a kidney infection and a urinary tract infection right now. My back is in so much pain! It was in the left side now its in the left and the right. It's so uncomfortable. Just know that it's not just caused by sex. Do any of the women in your family have a history of what you're experiencing?

Just a thought... are you having pain in your pelvis area? With my history, and my experience, I would say definately go to a doctor. It sounds like either a kidney infection or kidney stones..... sorry. I know the feeling. NO SEX! NO SODA, NO DAIRY, NO ALCOHOL.. trust me, it makes it so much worse. go for cranberry juice, and really get to a doctor, also, got to the local pharmacy and get some (or look in to) pyridium. It's like a narcotic for your bladder, it numbs the discomfort of what your going through. also makes more pee come out at a time, and changes the color of your urine... Good luck. feel better

I was reading statistics on mayo clinic's website and it said that if you have more than 3 UTI's within one year's time, you're likely to have them for the rest of your life. I'm a UTI sufferer as well, I've had them for almost 5 years now. I had exactly the same experience you had with the bleeding/pain/chills. It turns out that my infections are so aggressive that tissue actually comes loose during urination. I highly recommend peeing in different positions to make sure that you're really emptying out (ex: hovering over toilet, backwards on the toilet, or standing up in the shower.) Also, I've always been prescribed Cipro when I have infections because sometimes other antibiotics just don't do the trick and I get pelvic aches.

Prevention is much better than dealing with the pain. I use Vitamin C tablets and AZO cranberry tablets (specially designed to prevent UTIs by using cranberry juice and probiotics) Also, you can talk to your doctor about getting small doses of antibiotics to take right after sex to wipe out that bacteria before it gives you grief.
