Stopped Depo Provera Shot - no periods for 9 months!!!

Hello all... this is my first post and I would appreciate any help that anyone can give me.

My last Depo Provera shot was May 09' and I still haven't gotten my period. I was on the shot for about 4 years. I know that's longer than I was supposed to be on it which is why I stopped but now I'm a little worried because I haven't gotten my period back since I've stopped... not even any spotting. My doctor said to give it a couple more months but I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else. I'm back on the normal pill starting about a month ago but that shouldn't prevent me from getting my periods at all.

    Any advise??

    Thanks!

I got my period back about 3 to 6 months after being on the shot for 5 years. Now that I've gotten my period again it's been horrible. I've been getting 2 to 3 periods a month for the last 6 months that last 6 to 7 days each..so hun just be patient don't go worrying and looking for it because when it comes back it may come back with a vengeance or maybe not everyone is different. I knew coming off the shot that i wouldn't get my period back quickly because i had been on the shot for so long but not having a period was wonderful and i just lost track of the timing. I hope this helps you.

      The awful depo injection!!!

Hi there, i am also in a similar situation to you.....i had my last depo injection in April 2009, and had no periods or spotting until two weeks ago, where i got my first period. I have been bleeding ever since sometimes light, and sometimes heavy, but just wanted to ensure you that they will come back....it just takes time and being impatient myself, know how frustrating it can be as my husband & I cant wait to have a baby! When i saw my doctor, she sent me for tests for polycystic overies and checked my bloods but all came back ok! Was also told that if i went back on the pill that it should stimulate a period, so hopefully you should see one soon! If only our doctors had told us about these side effects when we decided to take the injection......sure it would of put a lot of women off x

The last depo provera shot I was supposed to take was October '09. I began the shot October '08. I had the normal side effects, spotting, brown discharge, weight gain, ect. My main concern is that I have not gotten my period yet. Is this normal? I spotted around March 10, and nothing since then. I have also been breaking out A LOT! I have never had acne, only the usual little break outs. Is this normal as well? Will my period ever come back? I'm still young, and I'm terrified this will harm me in the future.

I was on depo for 05-09 and still havent got a period. I know a girl who got just one injection and said it took her almost 3 years to get a period.

I understand it is quite common for the period not to start back up after being on the shots..I've heard even as long as a year. That stuff is horrible for your body. All birth control methods delivering synthetic hormone as extremely hazardous to a women's health. I was on oral BCP for 20 years and it nearly cost me my life. I have been off for over a year and my cycle is still not normalized or consistent to say the least. Everyone responds differently to the toxic carcinogens that are being pumped into their system from synthetic hormone BC. I personally had horrible side effects so hopefully other than no bleeding, you aren't suffering.

                  I have the same thing

My mom made me get the same birthcontrole like 4 years ago.I ONLY GOT ONE SHOT. ONE I have not ever had a period since then. I have to take the birth control pills to have one and they hurt really bad. I have no way and no money to go to a doc about it. I have also gained 30 or so pounds that i can not lose. I way like 160 something and i was 115 to 120.

Depo Novera was a bad choice

I only took the injection once - 3 months before my wedding so that my period would be gone in time. It was a big mistake. My skin broke out and a had a permanent period for 7 months. This lead to other complications - seriously bad candida for 5 months as well as 3 other infections. The antibiotics I had to take for the infections just made the candida worse. One year later all is back to normal. Ladies - please avoid using this drug.
