many years ago, my mother told me not to wash my hair during period beacouse it had a bad effect on period but i don't care about that. recently, i've heard a doctor said that not to wash your hair during period becouse it lead to ovary retraction

Oh Dear. There used to be (I thought it was Used to be) people who thought that a menstrating woman would cause milk to go sour, contaminate food and other such nonsense. The bible advises men not to sit where a woman has sat. Some cultures would separate menstrating women - given the amount of work they did, that was probably something of a vacation.

This is all utter nonsense. I agree, find another doctor and get mom a nice book to read, What's Happening to My Body? For Girls, might be a good starter

Oh WC, all I can think of is the movie Anchorman, when they are talking about menstruation attracts the bears. lol

On a more serious note, my hair gets extremely oily during my period, so there would be no way I could NOT wash my hair then.

My Mom's mom used to say such things too but thank God, my mom never acted on that and never advised me such things
You may seek another doctor. i do not agree these things are related.
The only cause why we should avoid in our day 1 or 2 might be bcoz body is too week and may caught cold, nothing else i may think of

Don't Cut Your Hair While The Moon Is Full!!!

Hey sweets. I always give myself the once over when my period starts by washing my hair. I guess it's a tradition for me. Always love your mom and grandmother for their sayings but don't take them to heart. My grandma used to say, "Don't cut your hair while the moon is full", and for years every time I would grab the scissors, I'd run outside first to see how the moon was doing! Or the infamous "Don't sit your purse on the floor or you'll be broke." I'm sorry, but to this day when it comes to my money, you'll find my purse either in my lap or on the table in front of me! Thanks Grandma...I love you!

Actually that is true. So will many scents from shampoos, lotions, food, even stuff like cherry flavored chapstick. I've had a bear encounter, had the van broken into and pretty well trashed inside. Oh do they Stink!!

Oh yeah! When we lived in the New England area and would go camping, we made sure EVERYTHING was in those bear proof containers.

Don't be so quick to dismiss what you mother says

Ladies, It's true don't wash your hair when your period first starts, because you'll have the worst cramps in your life or have a heavy cycle. But everyone is different now a days 90% of woman are on some type of birth control, which alters the way your body works. A word of advice for all don't always take the word of a Doctor or anyone, ask questions and research it for yourself, READ and educate yourself! compare what they say to what you've learned. remember if you're not sick they won't make any money! Oh, to the one who made the comment about the Bible, The Bible is TRUE! The reason why a woman should be around men pms and during of menstrual because it's a cleansing cycle for women which causes all types of hormones to expelled from the body including pheromones(heightens sexual frustration), which can cause some problems with the opposed sex. have you not noticed that we can get really irritated, that's because of hormones. , . .
