    Confused and unaware :(

    Hi!

I'm a seventeen year old girl from India and when I was a one-year old baby, because of some genetic disease, I had my ovaries and uterus removed. My parents only broke the news to me when I was fifteen years old, and they did it so awkwardly, after I waited so long for my first period I never even had it explained properly. My mom had taken me to gynecologist when I was 11 and after checking my vagina and breast, she prescribed hormonal tablets (PROGYNOVA 1 mg) which I've been taking every night for development...

I've tried ignoring the whole thing for the past two years, not letting it get to me, but recently I've starting thinking about it all and I'm feeling so low because I have no one to discuss it with or explain things to me. My parents decided to hide this from everybody, and have never brought it up in front of me again. Occasionally I've tried approaching the subject, but it's always been ended so abdruptly. I feel like I don't even know my body...

So I have certain questions that I decided to post on this forum!

1.) What are the physical symptoms of having no ovaries?

    2.)Will I develop masculine traits?

3.) Is it possible for me to have sex?

4.)And lately, I've been thinking of it so much, I really really want to have a baby of my own, and it's getting me so depressed I mean, why me? I didn't even have a chance to try...Is there any hope for me still?

What's going on with transplants, stem cells and in vitro culture? Can I positively hope for medical advancement in the next ten years? Is there any possible to way to create an artificial ovary with my genes?

And how common is this problem of infertility? What about among men..

It's so very hard I'm glad you took the time to read this, or even answer it.

    Thank you very very much.

Hi crimsonglow, sorry to hear about your problems and I hope you are finding a way to come to terms with your situation. Having your ovaries and uterus removed is a complete hysterectomy so basically, there's no other way to say this, it isn't going to be possible for you to have a baby with your own eggs or carry a baby but there's always adoption and lots of children needing loving homes. I assume the tablets you are on are hormone replacement to help you develop and also stop any male traits so as long as they have the dose correct and keep any eye on you I don't think you need worry about that. As you still have a vagina you can have sex but as you have had a complete hysterectomy you may experience vaginal dryness but you won't know until you get to that point and the hormones you are on may well prevent this, and any other symptoms you would experience without it from the hysterectomy.

Sorry to not be more help, I think you ought to have a chat with a doctor so you are completely clear on your own circumstances and what you should expect.

I am so sorry sweetie. I wish I could offer you more then what Sarah has already said. My prayers are with you and I am glad that you are reaching out. Give yourself some time to adjust to all the new developments you are going through. I hope that you will be able to accept yourself as you are. You sound like a very nice young woman.
