Hi, I'm 26 years old and reasonably healthy. Just like a lot of others I have been having very irregular periods. I got my period in middle school and it had always been normal until about 5 years ago. At first I went 3 months without a period and was nervous that I was pregnant. I wasn't and things seemed to get better over time. I did notice however that during intercourse it was very painful for me, we tried all different ways and nothing worked. Then about a year later I would have my period every month, but it would last from anywhere from 2 to 3 months. I went to the Dr. and she did a pap. and said that it looked normal, so she put me on a bunch of different birthcontrol pills over time. None of them worked and here 5 years later I'm still having the same problem. Lately, over the last few months, I have noticed something that feels like muscle spasms about where my ovaries are *according to my mother*, as well as sharp pains during as well as for a while after orgasm. I also seem to be fluctuating between very bad depression, and very bad anger lately. I really don't know what's going on with me any more. Does anyone else have a clue for me?

It does sound like a hormonal imbalance, but I wonder why none of the birth control pills have worked for you. I'd recommend going to a new doctor, explaining your history - the cycles, the birth control pills, and the muscle spasms in that area.
