    Ovulation Pain

Does anyone else experience ovulation pain? Usually around 2 weeks after a period.

The weeks either side are also coupled with extreme horniness.

I do. I know exactly when I'm ovulating, the cramps are worse then menstrual cramps at times.

I figure I get about one normal week a month. I'm pretty regular with a cycle that is consistently 28-33 days. I have a week of bleeding, then I have a normal week, then I have a week of cramping from ovulating, then a week of grouchiness, then my period again. lol

Last month if felt like I got no break. I had a 23 day cycle, which I've never had before. I had no clue what was going on when.

Ovulation may really be that distressful. For other women, it is just a mild discomfort however.
You are really not alone. Ovulation pain has been reported in about 20% of menstruating women.

It is also called middle pain or mittelschmerz.

It is associated with one of the many processes associated with the release of the egg such as rupture of the wall of the ovary or release of fluid into the pelvic cavity as the egg is released.

Though it is pain associated with a normal process, it is still pain that requires treatment. Know that it is pain and needs to be treated if it causes u such discomfort.

Simple pain killers are a good place to start with. I am certain you should have used them by now with little effect. You take a step-wise approach with over the counter agents such as tylenol or ibuprofen. u start with one then increase the dose and switch to another if no good response. at times, inappropriate usage may be the use of poor relief of pain.

Have an action plan. u can start taking the pain medication that helps u about 2 days before the expected date of ovulation an continue 1-2 days after. Take it regularly and not just wait for the pain to start. Remember that ibuprofen causes peptic ulcer pain and may provoke an ulcer. like cramps, just try different drugs and stick to what helps. u can consult your doctor for better advice on how to use the over the counter pain medications. note also that if these do not work, prescription pain killers may be necessary.

Hope this helps u in ur pursuit of relief. Maybe the understanding that it is still pain and requires relief may help you actively take some steps against it. Pain may cause considerable suffering if not relieved.

It's good to know i'm not alone, however i think both my mid cycle pain and the initial (first 2 heavy days) period pain is getting worse so i may need to go see a doc.

I try not to use medication (including pain relief) as much as possible, but i can't continue taking 2 days off work in a foetal position with a heat pack.

But like i said, it's nice to know it's just not all in my head.

        Thanks :-)

I went to the Dr for the ovulation pain... They wanted to put me back on birth control pills. Um, no thank you!!! I have my tubes tied, I don't need birth control pills, nor do I want them. I was kind of irked, thankfully I've got a pretty good relationship with my Dr because I told him he was crazy. They said it would balance out my PMS and ovulation symptoms, but I'm not interested in adding hormones into the mix again, I didn't get a tubal for no reason.

So, I'll suffer in the fetal position and heating pad for the time being.
