This past March, I had a sonohysterogram along with 3-D ultrasound. My GYN discovered a 6cm cyst on my left ovary and a rather large endometrial polyp. I go back next week for another US to check on the cyst. Depending on what he finds, we will discuss surgical options for the cyst and the polyp. I have been taking Prometrium since this past December in an attempt to control long, flooding periods. I can tell that the cyst is either still there, or another one has replaced it because I have been experiencing a gradual increase in pain over the last 2 months. My doctor is suggesting endometrial ablation or hysterectomy, depending on what he finds when he looks this time. I have one child who will be 16 in December and I am fine with just having one. My main concern is sexual function if they have to do a total hysterectomy. My husband and I enjoy a very active sex life and I'm really not wanting to lose any of what we currently enjoy. If anyone can share their "after hysterectomy" experience, I would be grateful. I have read study after study but it's just not the same as hearing from actual women.

Hysterectomy

Hi , I had a hysterectomy at the age of 27 very young. I had no choice I had cancer of the cervix and uterus. I do have one child a daughter that is 7 now. At the time I was married to her father and it was a bad marriage and I had no choice in the matter of surgery. I divorce in 2004 and met the man of my dreams 4 years ago and he has never been married and does not have kids. It is my dream to give him a son one day if possible . I regret having surgery now. I still have problems all the time so I don't think it helps all problems. I still have my ovaries and tubes so now Iam at risk for etopic pregnancy. I wished I could get pregnant and have a healthy baby. Hope I helped in some way.

Hello Cyn, I had one in Jan '05...I was 27, I had a total abdominal hysterectomy with both of my ovaries removed. I had a history of severe endometriosis, non functioning fallopian tubes and when the hysterectomy was completed the Dr. found that I had the early stages of cancer on my ovaries and my uterus. It all started with periods that came maybe once or twice a year and excrutiating pain. I just could never find a Dr. who was willing to perform the surgery on me because I was always too young. Now that I've had the surgery, yes I'm pain free.... But because I had my ovaries removed, my body automatically went into surgical meopause...the hot flashes, the night sweats, the insomnia, the vaginal dryness I think is the worst.. I have a great husband!! Yes, we've been through our ups and down, almost got divorced..twice!! It hurts SO MUCH when we try to be intimate...that we've stopped trying. I feel so inadequate, like less than a woman. For everyone it's different there's alot of factors to consider....I don 't want to scare you, this is just MY story, I hope me sharing my story with you helps....Good Luck, let me know how it goes!!

Got back bad test results and now have to have hysterectomy in one week.

Hey all.. im new here and very nervouse about having a hysterectomy.. I am dying for the biopsy reports to come back, but i have to wait until monday to find out. Ive been told im borderline cancer and need to have a complete hysterectomy done within the next week. Im terrified, cuz i got a paper saying my test results from my pap was fine, i went in three weeks later for bleeding and boom.. the results are suggesting cancer. I know nothing but horror stories of hysterectomys... i have no clue what im doing. I am done having kids and am tired of hurting and have no choice if i want to get rid of this... but am still scared.. i don't know what to expect and need some advice while i wait till monday? Any one had a complete at 27 before that can tell me what to expect and how recovery went? thanks soooo much.. belle

am sorry to hear u may require this surgery. i had a complete hyst'y at age 27 due to a bad case of endometriosis. had endo. for 4 yrs prior to surgery. man, was that a painful condition. even though i have not experienced menstration in eight years i will NEVER forget how sick used to get when it was my time of the month. and due to the female-cancer history in my family, my dr advised me not to try to keep my overies. so, complete hysterectomy at age 27.
i do not believe that a hysterectomy depletes a women of her sexual desires. i still want and enjoy sex just as much as ever. i truly believe it's the symptoms of menopause that get to some of us and lower our sexual prowess. and there are a ton of symptoms from hysterectomy/menopause. as long as you communicate your feelings and symptoms to your dr, he/she will take good care of you. and if you do not feel as if you are being taken care of.......get a new dr. the very most important thing, i have learned, is that you need a capable, caring physician.

My wife has been bleeding for like 3 months with no end in sight. She was diagnosed with endo early 2007 and since then her emotions have been like a roller coster. Shes lost like 20 or 30 pounds she can't sleep more than 3 hours straight and aside from the endo she has an inverted heart (opposite side) and has had an esphogilatricia (tube connecting her esphoges). I am sick of her being in pain Basically it sucks so here is the question it's kind of up in the air if we wanna have another kid or if she needs a hystrectamy (?) but the bad thing is from everything i've read their is no one thing that can say it will stop it. Even after either of these things they say it is a possiblity of it coming back.

I was 42 when I had my hysterectomy, Sept. 2006.
Mine was quite the surprise.....
As a teen I always cramped badly, after my children I never cramped again.
In July 2006, I went in for a physical and was just complaining about not feeling 100%. Little nausea that was irritating, but not life changing.
Dr. sent me to have an ultrasound of uterus and abdomen the next day.
Had those done and was told I would be contacted with results later.
Later came sooner, because I woke up the day after the ultrasound with cramps from hell. I couldn't function at all. Rushed into the Dr. office and was told that I had a cyst/tumor the size of a golf ball on the ultrasound in my uterus and that I needed to see a surgeon immeidately.
Went to my OB/GYN and he told me that it was growing quickly. We decided on a laproscopic hysterectomy, removing the uterus only. My ovaries were fine, plus I told him I didn't want to grow a beard.
I stalled on the surgery, as my son was away in the ARMY. 2 days after he got back, I was in the hospital.(This was my first surgery)
The cyst/tumor was now the size of a grapefruit.
The biopsy came back non malignant. The fast growth was due to where it was and the great blood supply.
To this day the Dr. thinks that I always had the cyst, but that maybe the ultrasound stirred it into activity.
In response to your concern regards sex. The uterus has very little to do with that. As long as you can keep your ovaries or are on a good formulary
for the lack of homones, everything should be fine.

I had a hysterectomy at age 47....Two very large fibroids. I was anemic and they had to build me up before surgery...Each period was like a surgical operation....Real bad.

When I had this surgery they also took out my ovaries.. So I was now barren....Only had premarin as a hormone but to tell you the truth I did not worry...I never looked back, golfed, went back to finding myself sexually as I believe it is a lot of a mind game and have never grown a beard....

Now I am off premarin and just use Estring which is magic as I am as juicy as an orange at the height of the season....Oh, and that was near 24 years ago and sex wise, you have got to be kidding....We get it on probably three times a week and I had the sexual passion to turn him around and off Viagra....So many things are thought to happen so people make them happen...Think frigid and you will become frigid...Think sexual and you will.........have a ball.....
