JessieB - You don't need the Nature's Way Primadophilus Reuteri AND Femdophilus, as they are basically the same thing. Use one or the other. I am using the Femdohlilus now, as it was less expensive at the health food store (although still very pricey! I paid $20 for 30 capsules!!) I purchased the Primadophilus on-line from the site I listed in a previous post for less than $20 for 90 caps.

I still haven't received the Active Gel yet, though my credit card has been charged. It was $30 but I must agree with Ginger-Ark. Economical in the long run. I'm not sure how many applications will be in the tube, but I'm sure more than 4. Rephresh is about $19 for 4 applications...Too much.

My home-made Ph testing kits are working out well. I believe I've posted the link for the strips. My Ph seems to be around 4.5. I'd like to get it lower so helping the Active Gel will help.

Ginget Ark - I am still taking the probiotics 3 times a day and feel relatively symptom free. (Had sex a FEW times and all smelled good!!!) How long should I stay with 3 times a day??

inknc66, yes the shipping is expensive because it's coming from the UK. It ends up being about $25. However, compare it to the US "equivalent." The US drug acid jelly is by prescription only. It has much more of a smell (kind of vinegar-like). There's a doctor's visit. And my script cost me $30 after insurance. So... the Biofem isn't too bad a deal.
      GINGER ARK!!!

        Hi everyone,

Well, after using the Cala-gel for about a week, which has been working great, I got my Active Gel which I ordered before I found the Cala-gel and I thought "this is great, now I have 2 things that work" but after my first use of the active gel I got really tender in that area and the smell got worse, but then got better then worse then better so I have no idea if it's working, anyone else had this problem with it? I just used it again because I was starting to get BV after forgetting my Cala-gel at my parents and now i'm burning, itchy and sore down there. I am so frustrated because it seems all these things that work for everyone else won't work for me. I've been taking the Reuteri/Rhamnosus for over a year but I think I became immune to it after a few months because it doesn't help much anymore if at all (but i'm taking it anyways, just more), the Hydrogen peroxide just made things worse, and the Vaginal Vitamin C worked but they don't make it anymore. I really was thinking I finally had a solution but now i'm worried i'll get used to the Cala-gel and it won't work anymore or they'll stop making it and the only other thing i'd hoped would work doesn't.

I'm not sure if i'm putting too much in, or if I should just be using it externally, it says a fingertips worth but when you are squeezing it into a place you can't see, so how do you know if you put in too much or too little, can anyone who've used the Active Gel help?

          B V

I too have had this chronic problem. Use Folic Acid. I take 400mcg daily along with my other supplements and have not had a recurrence all year. Good luck.

To all Who suffer from BV

I have had Bv since the birth of my son now 2yrs. old. Ive tried vaginally putting the peroxide capsule and not really a change. I've purchased Femonal taking it 2 a day not really a change. Also, tried taking a teaspoon of vinegar to cleanse the inside of the body, which help the smelly discharge. Okay! Here's my problem when I do have a discharge I can smell it, but when there's no discharge I don't smell anything. Although, when I'm around other people I can see them react that I have a bad smell such as; constantly rubbing their nose. I also ask close family members if they smell something bad and their response is "NO". My family is starting to think I'm going crazy, but other people reactions show a different story. Once again I don't smell the bad odor. I'm just wondering if I'm immune to the smell or you guys do smell a bad odor.

Also, I'm curious those that are douching w/peroxide are you making it yourself.

            Very depress with life.

              awww mimi2055.......

i totally understand hon. i've had it for over a year. still trying to get rid of it. you should read ginger ark's posts. she has alot of great and valuable information.

don't know too much about peroxide but i know some women mix half and half in a douche bottle and some just do a "wash".....meaning, filling it with peroxide and insert and press. it doesn't wash out the good bacteria, like a douche would, but it's your preference. some like it, some don't .

              hope this helps.

red berry, I wonder if you have something different. Do you happen to know your pH? I wonder if you have an organism altogether different. I've heard of some women actually having (it seems like??) a strep or staph infection. I wonder if a doctor could culture a sample.

The friendly bacteria put out hydrogen peroxide, so if that makes it worse... hmmm it just sounds like this is a different bug. There is one rarer kind of BV that's not really BV. I can't remember the details, but I recall that the infection is a lactobacillus (normally the friendly type) but that they're oddly shaped -- mutated maybe? If these critters give off peroxide like the real good lacto does... maybe that's the culprit?

First thing I would do is check your pH & see what you get. If the pH is low maybe you're dealing with yeast instead. That would make sense with your good experience with Vit C. There is also a possiblity of having both BV & yeast at the same time. If the pH is high, start looking into this other type of BV.

Try a betadine douche (I actually used to use 1/2 & 1/2 w/water). You can't keep doing this, as iodine isn't good for prolonged use on healthy skin, but it can give some real relief.

There are boric acid suppositories available on line, & many women find them helpful for both BV & yeast.

I'm just throwing out some ideas of alternatives.

I feel your pain altheria! Next week, im trying the probiotic called FEMDOPHILUS.Im also tired of the goop that i have 2 keep putting up there! How can a woman have a normal sex life! Im already self conscious about my post pregnancy stretch marked midsection at times, I definitely would rather keep my stretch marks than keep battling this mortifying odor! I hope this works!!!!

I found this forum after googling chronic BV and am so happy to find that I am not alone. I have talked to at least two friends of mine who admit they have this awful problem. Its so embarassing and hurtful to be at work and have an odor so awful that I can do nothing about. I will definitely try some of the things mentioned in this thread. I am going to try the peroxide wash tonight. Sadly I just filled an RX for Metrogel last Friday took it every night for 5 days and guess what? The odor came back yesterday which is less than a week later!!!!

I got my first diagnosis of BVN a few years ago and then when I was pregnant back in 2004 I had one every other month : ( It seems having sex with my husband was causing them but he and I arent together anymore and i'm still getting them.

Its very frustrating to have a physician continue to give you antibiotics and creams that don't work. I was sitting here at my desk thinking great I have to call my doc again for a refill and then I gogled BVN and this site came up. I'm happy to see that others have found things that helped them and hope some of these things will help me as well.
