Painful vaginal discharge and painful sex. Could it be my BC pills?

I've been having clear to yellowish vaginal discharge constant for about two months, which is about the time I switched birth control pills. It burns the area around my vagina and I am always wet from it, I have to wear pantyliners all the time. It's really annoying. And lately sex has been really, really painful, like someone is cutting up the inside of my vagina, and it my vagina is swollen inside so I can hardly fit my boyfriends penis in. It hurts so bad, I don't even want to have sex anymore, which kinda defeats the purpose of me taking the pills.

I was on a different brand for one month before these, and they made me so depressed I had to switch. I'm taking Aviane right now. They're fine all except occasional mood swings, so I'm wary about switching. But this discharge is driving me insane.

Just a bit more information here, I'm 20 years old, I just started having sex about six months ago, we always use condoms, and I've never been to a gyno.

I guess it's a funghi... is it painful or so itchy that you think it's painful? maybe you can try out an antifungal cream for vagina? just an idea, because I think I'm experiencing a bit the same like you, except the painful part.

Actually, it sounds like you have a serious issue. Sex should NOT be painful. This discharge you have sounds like an infection. Actually, infections can contribute to your pain during intercourse as well. You need to see a gynocologist ASAP. You may need to see the gyno on call. He or she will be able to tell you if this has any connection to the pills or an infection and can plan your care accordingly. Do not wait. Go ASAP. I don't recommend using anything OTC before seeing the doc.

Birth control pills could be causing an infection. Some people get bacterial vaginosis or yeast infections repeatedly when on birth control or certain brands of birth control. That will cause discharge, burning, swelling, and painful sex. Your doctor can take swabs and do a ph test to determine if you have one of those so it can be treated properly. Some find eating yogurt daily or other diet changes will stop the problem. By wearing panty liners you are also potentially making an infection much worse. Moisture, lack of air flow, and heat increase the problem and liners block air flow and evaporation keeping things constantly warm and moist. It's suggested to only wear cotton underwear and loose fitting clothes when you have inflammation or irritation in that area. Since I switched to seasonique if I go more than a week without yogurt or if I use panty liners instead of just tampons I get yeast infections. It's easy enough to avoid once you find the triggers though. Also if you have an infection and have sex you can give it to your partner but men generally don't show symptoms so they can carry it and pass it back or on to someone else without ever knowing. Another reason to avoid sex when you are having problems there.

Ah, thanks so much! I will talk to my doctor too. I'm on the sugar pills now, and all the symptoms stopped and my sex drive returned (lol). I'm definitely switching brands.
