    Viscious cycle - UTI's, YI's.....

I just barely stumbled across this page, so bare with me as an uneducated newbie....

My boyfriend and I just recently became sexually active - he's my first, but I'm goodness knows WHAT number. Anyway, we have a long distance relationship and I only see him every few months so you can imagine how it plays out when we meet up. I noticed the symptoms of a UTI the first time we had sex, but I didn't realize what it was. It never got that bad and it seemed to clear up by itself. The last time we got together we had a really long weekend and I got a MEAN UTI. I took AZO and discovered that it worked really well, however... I'm apparently EXTREMELY allergic to it. I broke out it hives all over and now over a week later I still have itchy palms (got hives on my palms and feet as well as everywhere else.) So obviously I won't be trying that again. I went to just a walk-in clinic because there's no way I could have gotten in anywhere else, and they gave me antibiotics just to make sure it was totally taken care of. I am also VERY prone to yeast infections and get them AT LEAST once a month no matter what I do and the antibiotics caused yet another one.

My dilemma now, though, is that I seem to get a UTI every time we have sex. I'm going to "his turf" next month and we'll actually have an entire month together - but this means more chance for me to get a UTI AND I'll be out of country where I won't have my doctor. I'm kinda freaking out because I don't want this time to be ruined by yet another UTI...

So in all that I suppose I'm looking for advice on prevention/treatment for UTI while I'm out of country and maybe advice on yeast infections. I eat tons of yogurt too!

If having sex seems to cause your infections, your doctor may suggest that you take a single low dose antibiotic pill after you have sex to prevent urinary tract infections.

Drinking alot of water, cranberry juice is also good, wiping yourself from front to back, going to the toilet after sex if you can to urinate...It's un-fortunately common, and cause by bacteria..

It seems maybe as per my last post that he has experienced this before with another lady, it's not a STD so it's not something that he has passed onto you persay but it is a common thing that occurs from sex with some people.

Yoghurt is good for thrush as a natural yoghurt, actually rubbed down there if ever you get a mild case of thrush...

Speak to your Doctor to see if there are any other methods that can reduce if not stop you getting this each time you have sex.

Have your boyfriend seen by a doctor. There are many types of UTI's that can be passed from man-to-woman and back to the man and back and forth because the male is not treated and is in fact the carrier. This is not to be confused with any type of STD so don't assume that. But he should be checked and provided with antibiotics as well as you. While the antibiotics work, use a condom. If he is active with other persons as well, they should be provided with antibiotics as well and condoms should be used with them as they could pass the infection to your boyfriend and he back to you. You are correct -- it is a viscious cycle.
That which we forget may as well never really happened.
