I have a septate hymen (a rare and annoying form of hymen) and it impairs me from taking tampons out. I can easily put a tampon in, but after expanding for a few hours, it is nearly impossible to remove. It is such a hassle to go through, especially in public places.

I am sick and tired of the complications and have decided I'd like to cut my hymen myself. I am not going to break it through sex as I'm a virgin. I want to do this to make using tampons easier. If you want to tell me "just use a pad", its not gonna happen.

I have read online of people who cut their hymen with no problems at all, but many people warn against infection. I am currently on antibiotics and will be taking them for the next two weeks so infection is not a concern for me. I am going to sterilize my medical scissors with boiling water and liquid antiseptic.

If anyone has cut their septate hymen before, I would like any tips/suggestions you can give!!! Even if you havent, any suggestions are welcome. My hymen is very very thin...probably 2mm thick. Should i just snip it fast? Will the bleeding stop quickly? I figure its just like breaking your hymen through sex, why not just cut it? The pain will be the same and plus I can control this. Why would my hymen get infected from cutting it with sterile scissors rather than intercourse?

I will NOT go to a doctor for this (my dads a doctor anyway, he would just tell me to deal with it). I will NOT break it through sex.

(Imagine if you could never take a tampon out without EXTREME pain and hassle. The pain of cutting my hymen will be no worse than breaking it during sex, plus it will save me the pain of removing tampons.)

You really shouldn't cut anything off your body without proper medical help, it's dangerous. Why would you want to take that kind of risk? A good doctor will advise you properly on how to deal with it "STFU" is not a standard medical response. If you don't want to go to him, what about a planned parenthood clinic? The doctors there should be able to help you. You can even just call them to ask, and they may be able to advise you over the phone. Randomly cutting off parts of your body is not a good idea.

You should not be performing a doctor's procedure on yourself. Simply using boiling water and liquid antiseptic you can buy at Wal Mart is not enough of a sterilization and will likely result in an infection. Things happen naturally including breaking a hymen. You of course do not need to have sex to have this done but it would be of much greater benefit to go to a doctor to have it done correctly if you choose to have it broken especially if you have a septate form. They are able to numb the skin as well and are not surprised by any request involving cutting a hymen.

I cannot even begin to say what a bad idea I think this is. I would advise going to another Dr. I just shudder at the thought of placing scissors inside of my vagina and that damage that may happen. In the end you will do what you want to do, but I think you really need to think about it and talk to a Dr about it.

I'm in 100% full agreement with what you've already heard. This is a bad idea hun, bad bad bad........and definitely not a good practice to get into. No cutting your body. DEFINITELY no cutting things inside your vagina. This could be disastrous for you.

The hymen could be broken through masturbation just as easy as through intercourse. Have you given that some thought?
