I've been having this pain for probably a year at least.

Before I get into, I have seen the doctor about it once. But they weren't thorough at all. They just said it was middleschmertz and gave me some Naproxen(which did next to nothing for the pain).

Anyways, the pain shows up at completely random times throughout the month, but it gets really intense for one or two days every month. It's different from the normal achy cramps that come with periods. It's a very sharp pain. I can tell that it is reproductive-system-related, if that makes sense . During the one or two bad days, the pain is debilitating. Any movement, pressure, even going to the bathroom makes it hurt so bad. Heat pads help, but only for about 10-20 minutes. I think these two intense days are my ovulation days? I have tried before to keep a schedule on my cycle and that's what I can surmise. Then there are the very random times (like 5 minutes ago) Where I get a random shot of pain near my ovaries. I can say it's my ovaries because it's usually one side that has the pain at a time.

I'm just very confused. I realize that periods hurt, but honestly I don't think they are supposed to hurt THIS MUCH.

I need advice. Has anyone dealt with this kind of pain before? What did you do? Does anyone know what this sounds like?

Ahhhh, I left out a part that might be important. The pain is sometimes also very low in the pelvis. Like, vaginal. Not sure if that is normal, it kinda freaks me out. :/

Sometimes cycles are so all over the place that your body does not know when it should experience PMS symptoms such as pain. Hence women having pain more often than not which correlates to an irregular period. There is more concern over a strong pain occurring more often than not rather than a day or two a month that again coincides with period or ovulation symptoms. Some women also experience far more pain than other women during their month cycles and at irregular times. If Tylenol or Advil tend to dull the pain then just take another dose. If heating pads work then keep using those in addition to OTC pain meds. You can also try Midol if Tylenol or Advil do not help.

Another choice is to see a doctor about fibriods or cysts. They are very common in women but sometimes they can become painful.

Then if it roughly, of course it will never be exact, coincides with the days you should be ovulating then it could be simply a sign of worse ovulation pains than other women. Some get those rough PMS patches, some get none, some have rough ovulation pains, some have none. Keep taking the Tylenol, Advil, Midol, using heating pads, taking hot showers or baths etc. and generally relax your body. If it continues to have serious pain, or pain occurs on days other than the roughly scheduled ovulation, then you may want to see a doctor again to see if they will refer you to a gyne who could look more into other pain sources such as the cysts.

i would suggest you consult your doctor first before trying to self-diagnose, and if he's not willing to do what it takes to find you relief, absolutely get a second opinion. i too had menstrual related pain throughout my cycle & after being told by two different doctors that this was NORMAL, i finally found a doctor that took my concerns literally and was soon after diagnosed with endometriosis. i can promise you constant pain like the kind i was experiecing is NOT normal! your doc will probably perform an ultrasound first to make sure you have no cysts or fibriods, or that no infections are present (by culture), he might agree to perform a diagnostic laparoscopy to rule out endo. if you have any questions or would like to learn more about endometriosis, there are many resourceful books & websites that are available to you. good luck!
