Will Co-Workers Menstrual Cycle Mess With Mine?

    Hello All,

So my period was expected on Friday 5/4/12 with a 30 day cycle (sometimes it can be 33-34) so that would make me 3 days "late." I have lower back pain and my boobs are a little sore, but that's not really abnormal, and I usually have light brown spotting before my period, and I've had that the last couple days. I'm thinking it's on its way, but not sure why I don't have it already. I guess I am just wondering if my co-workers cycles could be messing with mine?

    One co-worker has a 40 day cycle
Another has a 25 day cycle
    and another is always irregular

Could this be messing with my normal cycle? I am sexually active, but have used a condom every time so I wouldn't have to worry about unplanned pregnancy. -look at me now...a bit worried and I guess using protection still doesn't give you a piece of mind.

I highly doubt it. It has been said that close friends that spend alot of time together, sisters, or roomies can somehow end up on similar cycles. Not sure there's any scientific proof to it, but that of course doesn't necessarily mean it isn't so. But from coworkers? I doubt it. We all have quirky cycles sometimes.

Well, the only reason I would think it's my co-workers is because the majority of my time is spent with them (8 hrs a day 5 days a week) and it seems someone is always cycling, lol. I also have a female roomate who has the Mirena IUD but doesn't get her period, but she still swears she gets PMS symptoms... idk. Just a theory I guess, LOL. At one point at work it was like the wave, one week one had it, the next week someone started, the next week someone else started, etc. lol... a period wave!

I think it is a possibility because it has happened to me repeatedly. At my last job, I worked with the same ladies for years, after about 6-12 months, can't remember exactly, we were ALL on the same cycle. Would start within 2-3 days of each other and there was about 6-8 of us in that department. Definitely a possibility.

That would make sense, because I first got it yesterday, but had all the symptoms for about a week...my coworker got it the same time as me. Weird!!!

It can happen but typically it can take years and honestly it is very coincidental in the overall sense. If you are around a group of women in the workplace eventually someone's cycle is going to generally match up to another's simply because it is a cycle and it can change at any time. Just because two periods seem to match does not mean it is caused by the other women in the room, the cycle has the ability to change at any point in time for any variety of reasons so given enough time there would be enough instances of normal irregularity to coincide with another woman's cycle. I would blame the different symptoms on the simple fact that any woman can have an unpredicted irregular cycle.

Ya I misunderstood. I thought you were saying that it seemed like one of you was always on your period. Not necessarily at the same time. If you're working with 6-8 gals and there are only 4 weeks in a month, then it would indeed seem like someone was ALWAYS on their period.
