Hello, all!
My name is Julia. I'm 22 years old. I started my period early this morning, and I noticed that when I changed my 3rd tampon of the day, that there was "old blood" on my tampon. I'm not sure what else to call it, but it's the dark sticky looking blood that I usually see on the last day of my period. I usually see normal colored blood the first few days, so this is strange to me. I was wondering what could be the cause of this? I've been on the same birth control for quite some time now (Nuva Ring), and have never had this problem. I'm thinking it could be a reaction to the Midol or Hydroxyzine I took, but I don't see why that would do this.

Medicine I've taken for the day- Midol complete care (2 pills), Pre natal vitamin (for iron deficiency), and my Hydroxyzine which helps with my swelling problem.

I'm hoping it's just my body being weird, but I'd just like to be safe and know for sure.

At times your body can prepare for menstruation without having the blood appear so it would just be lining shed but no actual bright red blood along with it. It is very normal and can continue throughout the period meaning light bleeding but still the dark sticky lining. It can also continue after your period. Very normal to occur.
