    Provera vs Hysterectomy

I am desperate for information, advice, experiences...

I had been bleeding so badly for over thirty days, that I have just recently been hospitalized and almost required a blood transfusion. I had a D&C two weeks ago and was put on Provera. The bleeding is the occasional spotting now. Dr. says this is a temporary fix and wants me to try the Mirena IUD.

I have been so depressed for the past month and couldn't put my finger on it. I am 38 years old and I have 5 children. Stress is my middle name, but nothing usually that I couldn't handle normally. I felt so hopeless, lost, worthless... all not normal feelings for me, (or at least at the level I got to). I attempted suicide last week. I would have never crossed this line! When the doctors asked what medications I was on I told them about the Provera. They told me that this is a serious side effect in some women. Thanks! Would have loved to have known that when I started taking it so that, maybe, I would have recognized that "something wasn't right". I immediately started researching via web info on Provera and saw thousands of women saying and experiencing the same thing I have/am. The general consensus seemed to be "I want off this drug, I'd rather bleed!" Yuck, what a choice.

My doctor says that my ovaries and uteurus are disease-free, I just do not ovulate anymore, which is causing the severe bleeding. She is really pushing the IUD. I am never going to have any more children. I can't take the pill, because I smoke and my age.

Here's the thing, though, when I researched the IUD, it described the exact same side effects that I am having with the Provera! Why in the world would I want to continue to go through that?

Dr. is soooooo against a hysterectomy and I don't understand why. If I have my ovaries, what is the big deal? Any info you have, I would greatly appreciate.

Has anybody done a hormone panel on you? Checked your thyroid function? I frequent a med board called medhelp.org. I've seen women post about similar problems there. Perhaps they can help you with some more ideas.

Since the mirena is progesterone base, any thoughts to the copper iud? That progesterone drug they had you on is evil.

      Same here!

I just saw your post and I am in the same situation! I am 28, have 2 kids and I have been bleeding for 35 days now! I was put on provera for 10 days and that did nothing but made me go insane... I had a D&C last week and that didn't work either, I was supposed to be spotting by now but instead I have a normal flow menstrual period. I don't know what else to do, I am SO tired of this never ending period and the D&C which should have worked, didn't! Please let me know if you found a solution or if your doctor found something that worked for you. I am seeing my OB/Gyn today and I hope he has some answers to why the D&C did nothing. He mentioned a hysterectomy at my last appointment, but I am only 28 and to me it sounds crazy! I don't want any more kids, but still, I am too young to be going through this.
      Thanks and Good luck, Fab

        Provera,Hysterectomy,IUD....

I am an older woman and Native American and my mom told me that hysterectomies changes the womb and makes it cold. Also, men will not want to be with you sexually because of this fact the womb being cold. I was suppose to take provera and glad that I did not now I have a dilema. I have decide weather to have the utrine fibroids taken out or choose the IUD or Hysterectomy. These are great choices nope they are not but now the doctor said my uterus is thining go figure. I do not have a clue which way to go but desperately seeking answers to these questions. I am afraid of an IUD after all I cannot have kids my friend has one and told me that"it hurts her sometimes feels like something is sticking her. I only know provera was a thumbs down after finding this site. I know am in awe as to which way to go!!!!!!
