Why do you say that? Did a physician diagnose you? If so, there are many ways of managing it. See a specialist who deals with PMDD. Don't self diagnose. Besides the fact you could be wrong, you are not accessing all the healthcare that may help you manage this condition. PMDD is a type of depressive disorder. You wouldn't self diagnose clinical depression or bipolar disorder and not seek medical health, right? Same here. Get confirmation from a healthcare provider and discuss management options.

Then it is very important to see a professional psychiatrist, preferably one who specializes in PMDD. There are both pharmaceutical and lifestyle options that can help.

Im trying to find a good dr that specializes in pmdd. One in my area that isnt gonna cost me an arm and a leg because i dont have health insurance. Plus i need someone who really knows a good deal about pmdd. My gyno didnt really know much and ive read horror storys of woman being not taken seriously about this disorder. Its hard so far to find out exactly where to go. Any suggestions on how to go about finding the right dr for me?

I've dealt with PMDD for quite some time. I've seen a variety of doctors including some nurse practioners who dealt with psych issues. Reality is I've tried a variety of meds which bought me some time. I would suggest starting with your general practioner and see what they say. It may be something they are willing to treat with you for now. Another option would be to go to a OB/GYN. There are some tests they may want to run but overall it would rule out some other possibilities. Be sure to let them know you don't have health insurance and would like to keep the cost down- (some of the oral meds they can order can be costly but there are other cheaper options that work just as well for many. Also they may forego some of the testing with that in mind.) Good luck. Its been about 15 years that I have dealt with this and am finally going for a hopefully permanent fix. Will let you know if it works.
