First yeast infection, won't go away completely. Insight?

Hello everyone. I'm 26 and here's what I'm dealing with...

A few weeks ago I was put on a course of very high dose Augmentin for an enlarged lymph node in my neck and one in my jaw. both of unclear cause. While the Augmentin did squat for the nodes (because it turns out that squat was what was needed to be done), it did give me my very first yeast infection.

    Oh joy.

From what I can tell, it was mild. It started at the end of the course with some light itching/burning and external redness and I saw the typical discharge once. I was on my period and I HATE pads so I couldn't use any of the store bought creams. What I did was look up home remedies and I went for the tea tree oil tampon because I figured hey...two birds, one stone you know? I did that for a few days but the itching and burning was gone within 24 hours. What wasn't gone was the vulvar redness. I finished my period and went the store for a 7-day Monistat course. No change. No pain, no itching, not even any discharge. Still red. Not even sensitive where it was red. I went for another course. No change again.

Then came the end of my BC script and time for my very first pap (read my post in the introduce yourself, you'll understand why I'm 26 and never had a pap before yesterday). I figured I would just leave it alone, stick with all the online advice about underwear and all that, and talk to the doctor then anyway. A few days before the day I intended to go my boyfriend and I had sex. It's always a little rough with him because he is a big guy and I am pretty small. So I was a little sensitive between my legs but I don't think that had to do with the yeast infection because it healed up the redness remained. In that time I noticed a single occurrence of the white discharge of a yeast infection but still no sensitivity or itching or burning or any of that. Just red. Still red.

So the NP performed my pap and took a swab to look at under the microscope just to make sure it was yeast. Like I said, I've never had one before so I'm no expert. Anyway she said I probably treated most of it as the only remaining symptom is the redness and I guess that little bit of discharge. She gave me a single dose of Diflucan, said I can keep using the external monistat cream and sent me on my way. I took the Diflucan approximately 40 hours ago and haven't noticed any change yet.

My current symptom is just the redness. I'm in inflammed/swollen, no itching or burning upon urination or otherwise, haven't seen the discharge. I've set aside all my sexy, non-cotton underwear and I wear loose clothes with no underwear at home but it just won't seem to go away. I'm not in any discomfort I just happen to think I have a very pretty vulva as pretty vulvas go and I am sick of seeing this little ring of redness around my inner labia. I want my body healthy again.

    Any thoughts?

I am sorry to hear that you are struggling with a yeast infection. Augmentin very possibly gave you a yeast infection since use of antibiotics is one of root causes of a yeast infection. Other root causes of a yeast infection are mercury poisoning, hormonal imbalances and high sugar diets. Thus, in order to get rid of a yeast infection completely, you have to eliminate all these causes first. Also, do you have any mercury dental filling? If yes, you might want to remove it since they more likely cause you a mercury poisoning. If you are interested in learning more about how to get rid of candida, I recommend you to read Candida30: Permanently Heal Your Candida Infection in 30 Days or Less. The book helped me to beat a yeast infection and is a great source of the information. I hope this information will help you and take care!

      Hi there
I agree and strongly advise the same advice as Lana15, however I wouldn't suggest it right away as this is your first.

I think yes, it would be brought about by a high dose of antibiotics, diet, and a high level of hormones. My thrush, I am cursed with antibiotics and high level of hormones being the main offenders, hence why I am on the implanon to control my hormone levels. Due to the implanon, my thrush only occurs if taking antibiotics.

The minute I am put on antibiotics I buy the 6 day treatment and start using it the instant I start the antibiotics and then I will go back and get a second course if I need it. I only follow up with my gyno/doctor if two courses of the anti-fungal cream doesnt work. Please note, although the anti-fungal creams are great, sometimes a three day course or a one day course (tablet) does not clear it up right awa. You will need to go back and get a longer course of treatment like the 6 day canastan cream, usually this will knock it on its head.

I would recommend if the diflucan doesn't clear it, go back to the doctor and get Nilstat - antifungal tablets. I would also recommend taking inner health plus to stock up on the good gutt bacteria again.

Thank you both for your thoughts. The truth is I'm really not that bad off. Like I said, this is only one I've ever had and I did have a doctor confirm that it was yeast. I'm not in any pain or discomfort and I don't even have the discharge.

It's just the internal redness I can't get to go away. It seems to look a little worse at night but it doesn't feel any different. I had the one dose of Diflucan I took two days ago and I can't tell for sure but it still appears to be the same. I eat yogurt daily and I was thinking about a probiotic supplement. I don't know why the redness won't go away especially since there are absolutely NO other symptoms. It's very frustrating.

What lifestyle choices would keep the redness this long without any other symptoms? The last couple weeks I was a little off with taking my birth control on time, I don't know if that could do anything. I've actually been trying to make healthy lifestyle changes. Drinking more water, getting back into yoga, etc. I don't understand why this redness just keeps hanging on. I change my underwear several times a day even though there is no discharge just in case. When I'm home I wear loose shorts with no underwear. I shower regularly and I try not to use too much fragrance soap between my legs. I don't know what else to do.

What if the Diflucan doesn't work?

First yeast infection, won't go away completely. Insight?

If no better/still uncomfortable by tomorrow, I strongly urge to go back and get anti-fungal tablets - for 30 days. It appears that maybe the Diflucan hasn't worked.

I know the pain you are going through, I am not sure as to why the redness won't go away. The only suggestion I have is maybe it has not cleared up.

You are doing all the right things re underwear. Can I recommend sensitive skin toilet paper as well? Maybe you are reacting to the fragrence found in that?

Have you changed washing powders? Try double rinsing your underwear, it could be a reaction to a new washing powder.

I would also suggest getting a soap free bath wash to use.
