Second Colposcopy, 4 years of abnormal paps, immunosuppressed, college student

    Hi All,

I'm completely new here and I was hoping someone could calm my nerves a little bit. I have been sexually active since I was 18 and almost immediately began having abnormal pap smears. I had one positive high risk when I was 20 and had to go in for a colposcopy/biopsy. The results were fine (still had HPV and abnormal cells) so the routine every 6 months pap continued. It went back down to mild dysplesia but I have not had a normal pap smear since. I have also contracted chlamydia twice - once when I was 19 and again earlier this school year (both were treated and cleared though the first went untreated for about a month+, I had no idea I had contracted it & my partner never thought to inform me...). Though it may seem like I am sexually promiscuous, I honestly have not had over 6 sexual partners in my lifetime (although a few of those partners were obviously not the most honest). Unfortunately for me, I am also on Humira, a form of immunosuppressant for rheumatoid arthritis. I have been on it since I was 21 and it has gotten me into remission. However, I do believe this is the cause of why I am still not able to clear HPV from my system. I do not have the warts, I was vaccinated for HPV before I turned 18, and I do use protection. This is where I'm getting nervous: just the other week, I received a call from my gyno telling me yet again I have a positive high risk and must come in for another biopsy and colposcopy. This will be my second round and was wondering how normal this is for someone at age 22. They told me when I was 19 this will clear up in a year or so and "we'll wait and see" but now this is the second time this has become high risk and I am starting to get nervous. I have had HPV for almost 4 years now and to have it flare up to be high risk twice seems like there may need to be more action done. I have the appointment this Friday morning March 29th so I guess we will see what the results of the colposcopy will be and then in 2-3 weeks what the biopsy will say. Does anyone else have experience with this? Should I be nervous or am I overreacting? How many more years will I have HPV until it goes away?

    Thanks!

I have a daughter who is 23 and she has HPV also (lots of young people have way more than people think). The HPV will never be out of your system it is something that you will have to live with forever. Have you always used protection with all of your sexual partners? That is a must in this day and age. Hope everything works out for you.
